I think they get the firer to shoot them through the chrono whilst they are there, otherwise they'd ned all manner of firearms to use. The NRA is an RFD so they could be acting as servants. Having spoken to someone who used to shoot F class, he said there are some who put the HME boundaries all the time. In practical pistol back in the 80's/90's competitors were 'dope tested' during the comps, at random, to check their ammo complied with their claimed 'Major' factor classification.

They asked for a few rounds of ammo. Said they were going to Chrono it, presumably pull one and weigh the bullet to work out the Muzzle Energy They are presumably trying to confirm that people aren't breaking the HME rules.

It seems that every discipline except TR takes second, third or lower place. A shame as it is some of those disciplines that keeps Bisley afloat outside of TR season.

I think the whole layout of Century range is counterproductive. The position of the 300M shed restricts what other distances can be used because of the 8 lane rule per 100yds, then they placed the 600yd electronics slap bang in the middle of Century which means anyone shooting 300 needs 24 spare lanes between them and the 600 electronics. The whole layout of electronics needs to be reviewed IMHO and the siting of the 300m shed has a legacy which impacts on the rest of the range unfortunately. They have 108 lanes available, but most days they can't allow users to book more than two distances. Invariably the range ends up being empty.

I have a couple of AI competition triggers. I'll get one out and take some measurements/photos. I would think it has much more than 6mm adjustment

Speak to Dave Wylde He rebarrelled an AR for me with a Sassen 1in7 It took 4 rounds to zero, then put three shots in .3MOA at 100yards , prone mag rested (no bags, bipods, tripods, rests, just mag rested) 77grn TMKs.

For CSR they are both good enough accuracy wise. It will be personal choice. The limiting factor will be your ability. For the standalone Historic CSR matches they will compete equally with SMLE's, in the CSR league and Imperial you will be classed as 'Iron Sights' and be lumped in with AR15's, AK47's and a mishmash of other iron sighted rifles, because the Historic class is purely Historic Enfields for SMLE's and No 4/5's. The 5 round capacity would almost certainly mean you'd rarely complete a course of fire.

If you ask 100 people, you'll get 100 answers. It depends what you find manageable and comfortable. You need to be able to shoot prone, sitting, kneeling and standing and jog between firing points carrying the rifle. Just have a go and see how you get on People shoot it with AI Rifles and 5-25 S&B's and seem to manage and they aren't lightweights. Have a practice in the garage holding it, coming up for 3 secs, then back to 45 degrees and see how it feels, do it 10 times.

The calibre won't matter. You'll need at least two 10 round mags, preferably more. Know your drops at 100,200,300,400,500 as well as 75, 50 and 25 yards. Don't expect to hit the target with all your shots for quite a while and don't feel bad not being able to hold a 4MOA 5 ring at 100 yards, because it's a 3 second exposure, standing, unsupported. Apart from that, just enjoy it. For the course it will only be 100 & 200 If you are willing to take the plunge just register for the monthly league matches, tell them you are new and they will squad you with an experienced shooter. Read the handbook, learn the rules and the course of fire can be printed off from the entry page online. It's the best way to learn.

My assessment was for one category, maybe that's why. Work out what categories you want on the SCC and specifically ask for that. The range fees aren't too bad. Three of us had a lane yesterday, all morning, at 200&300. The lane cost us £33. We chose to pay for a marker on top to get more shooting done, but could easily have marked ourselves. Electronics are about £18 an hour I think. You can shoot a lot of ammo in an hour!

Not sure if that is it. I think that might be for Probationers. Ask them. I think my Gallery Rifle assessment was £35, from memory. They are the ones issuing the SCC so they want to know you are safe, they have to pay their staff, so everything costs. You only have to pay once so get as many categories as you need. Shooting is expensive. People can pay £1 a round or more for ammo, then think the FAC fees, or £88 to join the NRA is expensive. The ranges at Bisley are superb, worth every penny If you make use of them.

If you have an FAC then you join the NRA. Having joined, you ask for an SCC assessment for the categories you want/need e.g. Scoped Rifle Iron Sighted Rifle Gallery Rifle HME Target Shotgun They will book you in, you attend, take a multiple choice safety exam (they'll give you the material in advance, if needed), then you go out to the range and do some shooting under observation to make sure you are A, safe and B, can hit the target. Once that is done, the office will normally issue the SCC there and then. If you want more than one category, try and arrange all on the same day. Once you have the SCC you can book Bisley ranges whenever you like as an individual or as part of a group, mark your own, pay for a marker or use the electronics. If part of a group then all of you will need an SCC. It sounds complicated, but it is very simple. I have added HME and Gallery to my SCC on this basis and both times it was a very simple process.
