  1. Yes, that is one advantage, and very useful it is, but not enough on its own to change our decision.
  2. Gents, We're all set to buy a .338 Lapua bolt and barrel for our DTA but have now been recommended to go for the .300 Norma Magnum instead. Having read a little about it, we're tempted to swap. It seems to offer similar performance , lacking only in a little energy at the far end. As we intend to shoot paper with it rather than elephants , that won't matter. Is there any real world experience here that could sway our decision one way or the other ? We plan to shoot at 1,000 to 2,000 yards with it and will be using hand loaded rather than factory ammunition.
  3. Couldn't we ask the esteemed Mr Packham for the name of a good lawyer and advice on how to challenge any loose ends in the legislation?
  4. Excellent looking bit of kit, and almost certainly a shooter as well as a looker. We're also going to keep an eye on Dave's exploits with this. When .224 V was introduced we felt it was just more marketing hype to sell into the .223 market but from the results we've read so far it does look a genuinely useful new cartridge. As an afterthought, what is the availability of brass like for .224V now? Any particularly good bullets recommended for it?
  5. Nuffink wrong with Bren bipods, ooman. Then again, there's a lot wrong with you bipeds...
  6. Or midnight black, with ΜOΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ and an infra red torch for the Walts?
  7. All it needs to be really Tacticool is a quick spray with Flat Dark Earth...
  8. The basic concept used by MRR was 'invented' by Armstrong back in the 19th century and served well enough in naval rifles...
  9. Orders the Sett's Propaganda Department to distribute a new tranche of badger colouring* books and posters of cute cuddly badger cubs to every school in the country... * Only HB pencils are required, nor crayons, hence not stretching the budget too far...
  10. Peanuts are okay, ooman, but to be fair we'd prefer a nice platter of smoked salmon and a glass of cabernet sauvignion...
  11. We have a Traveller model in 7.92x57 ( http://www.greatdanerifles.com/classic-traveller.html ) and consider it to be quite superb. Accuracy cannot be faulted, though as it's a relatively thin barrel we do find it starts to string vertically after 4 or 5 shots fired in rapid succession. Not a problem in a hunting rifle where only 1 shot is likely to be fired. We'd imagine the Tacticool version, with its heavy barrel, will be just as accurate and won't suffer from POI shift as it warms up.
  12. Very impressive ! We're surprised that the 7mm RM isn't more popular in this country though, it's a great cartridge. Do you know what the final weight was, with / without scope?
  13. Lundhags are good, but for rugged as 'eck, carpet slipper comfortabubbleness that will last a lifetime, go and have a pair of Altbergs made to measure. They come from God's Own County and aren't as expensive as you may think. Our pair is 23 years old, has served from above the Arctic Circle to the desert swamps of Mesopotamia*, faced barbed wire, sand, ice and rocks, even a couple of splashes from a phosphorus grenade, and are just about ready for their first ever re-soling. * Yes, oomans, you can get swamps in a nominal desert. Go google Shat al Arab
  14. We leave such things to our valet...
