  1. Do you know if they are they the Ti model? Your direct experience of an Oceania Mod is what I was looking to obtain. The mark 1 ear doing the comparison and not some machine where quite clearly there are all sorts of science factors that will cause inconsistencies is far more informative for my needs. I would hate to be be left in the same boat as the owners of the product Brown Dog refers to, that was utterly crap and was hardly any different shot being fired from an unmoderated rifle. Also the fact the NRA will be putting a few rounds through the Oceania’s throughout a days McQeens shooting they must be standing up pretty well. It’s not all about DB suppression. Gas flow management, durability and weight are all factors when choosing a silencer. For me it is much more pleasant to put a shot down range through a silencer rather than a muzzle brake or naked muzzle due to the pressure generated, that’s a personal choice. On range hearing protection should be worn because there will firearms present that don’t use silencers. When stalking/hunting the use of a silencer will often be enough for people to choose to for go hearing protection. The amount time of exposure to a dangerous level of sound is very short and there are other factors that will also have a bearing on the hazard, such as being behind the muzzle report and not having the sonic crack going over head. I believe it has been acknowledged for some time that manufactures DB reduction claims are not to be taken at face value. However the link I posted to a review by the New Zealand magazine appears to have been conducted on a level playing field in terms of the same conditions etc whether or not this has been viewed by recent posters I’m not sure.
  2. Of course it’s all about wanting to be Chris Ryan et al now where can I buy some multi cam pyjama’s????
  3. I have found a great article reviewing mods. http://www.rodandrifle.co.nz/supressor-test.html#/PhotoSwipe1540021909854 The Oceania’s have performed well in the tests, the ratchet model had the same DB reduction as my usual go to brand Ase Utra and is almost half the weight and that includes the muzzle brake. The inconel is the same price at the Ti mod. https://www.oceaniadefence.co.uk/product-page/copy-of-556-ratchet-lock-titanium-qd
  4. Mark you never fail to entertain. You are just to witty.
  5. I am interested to know if an aluminium moderator will perform like the Oceania. Has your friend used it much?
  6. I have had a chat with Phillip at Oceania Defence UK this afternoon. It was quite clear the Mil malarket is where these guys sell their wears. However Phillip was happy to chat about a single item purchase and explain the products. The Ti model weighs in at 175g. He advised that is would heat up after 10 rounds and give off a good mirage. He recommended the inconel model that weighs around 300g but handles sustained fire better and has a lower tone to the human ear. He is going to check on the availability of 18X1 brakes as they aren’t a stock item but they are expecting some for a contract in South Africa. Either way I also need a 5/8X24 so as soon as I can make up my mind Ti or inconel I will be ordering.
  7. ? you aren’t the first person to says that Bradders. They are spendy but weigh less than 200 grams and have some good features. There is a taper forward of the threads on the muzzle brake this stops carbon from leaching into the threads. As long as sound suppression is on par with other brands I don’t think the price is that bad.
  8. Get it shot Mark and let me know ? Which model is it, Does it use the ratchet lock? It would be good to hear what you think about it.
  9. I’m looking for anyone who has hands on experience of the Oceania Defence Sound Moderators. https://www.oceaniadefence.co.uk/product-page/762-ratchet-lock-titanium-qd
  10. It can happen. Certainly for me it would be harder to visit the shop to buy the ammunition.
  11. What length barrel? I find people always leave this out when posting load data and velocity.
  12. It’s good to see innovation although not a scope I have any use for. I remember seeing your US optics SN-9 David. It was huge. Is this scope enough to tempt you back into ELR???
  13. The March Genesis was launched today at IWA. It is aimed at the ELR market. It has some seriously innovative features.
  14. That was the fault of the muzzle brake
  15. Laurie thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed information. I had got it very wrong being in the belief it was faster burning. I think I will go with the RS62 or 70.
  16. Laurie please expand on this. I have only ever loaded .308 size cases and below. I had formed the opinion a stiff load of the N500 series would afford better velocity. Could you recommend a better alternative?
  17. I have got an R93 7X64. The Redding FL works well in the Blaser chamber. I have only used 120gr Nosler Balstic tips as that’s what I had on the shelf. I will certainly not be getting enthralled with mandrels and other anal loading techniques. The Redding dies will be more than adequate, I have some 162gr ELD-M I will be loading in the future. As for powder I will be going to a Vihtavuori N550-N560 due to the shorter barrels Blaser use and the fact I’m not putting several rounds down at a time causing heat.
  18. Thanks Laurie I will check it out now.
  19. Apologies I had not included the price of a buttstock.
  20. I believe you would need to pay tax. It is hit and miss with Norway. Even so with tax at 20% you are looking st £500. Less than half the price of the AB.
  21. £979 for the AB Arms stock from a U.K supplier. http://www.mcavoyguns.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d720_Remington_model_700_AB_Arms_MOD-X_Gen_III_Chassis.html The XLR from - although doesn’t have the barrel in a tube like forend would Appear far better value. Depending on exchange rate and tax my initial conversion is £420 I know which I would be going with. Of course it depends on task requirements. 99% of ukv members are clearly not military or police so there isn’t a true need for a full barrel forend.
  22. Looking at the forend sling mount you can move it. I would give it a try in a position closer to the action, where it would be put of the way of the Phoenix. I have a stock with a side mounted up and was sceptical of the location it had been placed but it works well.
