527vamint
I'm am currently awaiting for my variation to come through. The rifle is a Sako 75. Basically I will get quite a few loaded rounds and spare brass coming with the rifle,it's all sako 6mmppc brass. By what I can gather the rounds have been loaded with Lee dies and neck sized, some of the brass is quite badly tarnished and some appears to has rusty patches on from storage. As I understand the brass is quite hard to get hold of,what's the best route to go down to bring it all back to life and have a good starting point. I have a tumbler and Ultrasonic cleaner. Will I be better acquiring a full length sizing die and resize all the brass. Also I don't have that much load data so a bit of info would be great. It's going to be for target fox and hopefully deer few permitting , muntjac cwd and roe,so I would like it deer legal. Cheers
justin credible
Start from scratch basically, then you know they are all uniform. Clean up the brass. Full length size. Trim to length. Deburr the case mouth inside and out. Turn the necks (if you want to) Resize the necks. Load. Play.
1066
Personally I would start from scratch with new brass. You have a potentially very accurate rifle there and new brass is a relatively small investment. I know it's a bit of faffing about with the ppc but you knew that when you bought it. I would prefer to work up new loads in new brass and try and screw the last bit of accuracy out of the rifle and enjoy doing it. New brass with sensible loads and regular annealing will re-cycle many times.
andybrock
I'd start from scratch by ditching the dodgy, brass that coms with the rifle. Buy yourself a new box of Lapua 220 Russian brass, I think it cost about £100 for the last box I bought but they will last you years, neck turn them if it's needed, fire form them and away you go. BlueBoy69
I've got a RPA in 6 mm PPC USA and a Sako A1 in 22 PPC USA, so welcome to the PPC club.As to the cases. Check to see if they are physically damaged, if they are, as per andybrock, ditch them. Well keep them but don't shoot them. They can always be used for collectors. Both 22 PPC USA and 6 mm PPC USA are still made by Norma and Sako. Norma brass can be acquired from RUAG UK, and Sako brass via a dealer who works with GMK.As andybrock stated, cases can be made from Lapua .220 Russian brass. You'll require decent sizing dies, case lube (Imperial wax) and most likely a neck reaming tool. Info how to make the cases can be found all over the place. The Accurate Shooter 6mm PPC page is a good start. The cases can also be made from 5.45x39, 7.62x39 and 6.5 Grendel. Some more readily available than others. Some are an easy conversion (neck reduction and simple body resizing), others requiring specialised dies. Hope this helps, Neil

gunner
Start from scratch basically, then you know they are all uniform. Clean up the brass. Full length size. Trim to length. Deburr the case mouth inside and out. Turn the necks (if you want to) Resize the necks. Load. Play. If you had to use the old brass id do all this plus just before loading , anneal them . But personaly , itd have to be new brass . Probably a bit daunting ! Well worth it tho .
1967spud
the beauty of new brass is that you are 100% of its history unless of bcourse the old brass is your own
