.223 loads

I think you need to be a bit more specific about your needs.

.223 covers a massive spectrum. Bullets from 35-90gr and barrel twists 1:14 - 1:6.5. Not to mention a plethora of powders, all with very different burn characteristics.

27gn h4895 50 gn vmax or btip has worked in 3 that I've loaded for, still load for a keeper mate in his t3 stainless, nice accurate truck gun, lots of things drop to it, some at quite a distance.

My present and past 1in 8 twist rifles shoot 60vmax with 27gr varget into a tiny hole.

They also shoot 75gr hpbt hornady with 25 gr varget into sub quarter inch aswell.

Previous rifle was a tikka t3 and present is an rpa custom with border archer barrel.

Sorry Rup. The rifle is a sako 75 A1, twist 1:12, to be used mostly from the 4x4 for foxes, point and shoot so I am looking for fairly light loads to 250 yards max.

Cheers Tony.

Ahh, then you want something fast and light.

No need to apologise Tony, I just thought you might get more usefull information if you were a bit more specific.

I can't help you as I have 1:8 and use heavy vlds.

I had a sako 1 .223 before I changed it to a .204. It used to love H335 25.9 grns 2.275 OAL CCI primer 40 grn V max in laupa brass. Used to produce bug busting results

H322 with Sierra 53 grain Match, Hornady 52 grain match, or Speet TNT 50 grain from my Hart-barreled Howa. The Sierra's and Speers will shoot under .32 inches with the Sierra Match in the OMG! range when I do my part. I use Rem 7.5's also.~Andrew

Hi i have a howa 1500 in 223 and the best mix iv found is 52gn A-max with 25.5gns of H335 at the time of load developement i could only get to a 50m range and the best group i had was 0.060" and consistant groups of less than 0.300", these are my loads and finding please do as i did and work up to maximum load and be safe and sensible.

Hornady 52 grn A-Max = 25.4 grn H4985, COAL= 2.320. 1 small hole at 100 yards...

Sierra SMK 53 grn = 26.5 grn Varget, COAL 2.310. superb load.

Have now been using the Berger 60gr Match Varmints for a while and more than happy with accuracy and terminal ballistics as a varminting round.

I have settled on a load that has been good from 40f to 80f in my chamber.

Berger 60gr Match Varmint

Remington 7 1/2br primer
