Borden Mountaineer PSE E Lite Hardy Carbon Barrel
ejg223 replied to Ronin's topic in Precision Riflesmith's Showcase
Very nice Andy, well done. we were lucky with the barrel channel.... Yes I must start on a mould for the E-Lite Rem 700 converting stocks is a pain. edi -
Recently had a blue printed remmy action with a custom barrel from a local rifle builder in the workshop. We could not make up our minds how to bed the rifle in our stock... barrel was 9mm off to one side and pointed 2-3mm upwards. Didn't shoot either. Charged a good sum for blue printing... some people should not be allowed to go near rifles... edi

Very sorry to hear. RIP edi

Possibly the best barrels produced in Europe.... however not available in stainless. I had a look at their barrel making once and how they lapp the cut barrels. I never fired one of their rifles yet. edi

From German forums and from talking to Rifle manufacturers in Germany. edi

Pete, nothing to do with British proof marks. Once a rifle has been "proofed" within the CIP zone then it is accepted, no need to re- proof. Blamausau rifles are proofed in-house in Isny Germany. They might carry UK proof marks if for example a barrel gets threaded and therefore sent to proof. edi
-
The rumour is that they all have proof marks but only a few are actually put through the proof process. The rest are statistics.... Just look at some of their rifles, seems as if they were designed by the car industry... maybe VW engineers? Proof is like Euro Emissions standards... edi
-
Does the rifle chamber a factory loaded cartridge in the meantime? I don't think proof marks actually mean anything on these rifles. I have strong doubts that all rifles are actually fired at proof in Isny. edi

The idea behind these scopes is quite sound, they are of course outdated. The recent workers and owner of the factory have no clue of scopes and might even have difficulties putting them together. Main business of Kaps are microscopes for surgery. If anyone is interested in the brochure of the tactical scope I can e-mail a copy. This is what is written about the elevation turret. • Replaceable ring, scaled for .308/168 grain ammunition. The numbers on the ring mark target distances from 100 to 600 metres. When a target distance of 600 metres is set, additional markings on the reticle plate will allow distances from between 700 and 1000 metres to be set (for .308/168 grain). • Bullet-proof up to calibre .50 BMG • Rapid ballistic trajectory compensation for standardized rifle calibres. edi

Some people doubt that all (Isny) rifles are proofed, only random proofing out of a batch. I do not know if that is true but it seems to be said time and time again. edi
-
Bring it back, I would not touch a rifle out of that factory. On German forums they suggest that Blaser/Mauser/Sauer only proof the odd rifle (in house proofing ) ….. I think that is true. edi

Tech talk to Kaps company is a waste of time. I tried a couple years going to their stand at the IWA, it seemed they had no clue of target turrets or what movement their turrets do with one click. My guess is those who designed the scopes for the company are long gone. edi

I presume one could find a way in re-inletting a chassis to make the long mags work but one might need to fill the sides as the LA AI mag is narrower. The T3 action is not perfect for LA and fitting floor plates in say composite stocks is a bit tricky. Once bedded in the correct position it is fine. In the T3 thread on Snipers Hide one guy did a narrow cut out in the front of the T3 action so that long COL from a LA AICS will feed, possibly the best solution. edi

H335 is not bad at all. I never had any luck with fmj...155 A-Max or 155VLD/155.5 Bergers with H335 could run very well. edi

Congratulations to Rory and Daniel, fantastic result, we are proud of you. We are thrilled to have had a part in the rifle build. edi

I also have a 3-20 US on a different rifle. Lovely scope. The 3-27x56 PMII with the Spuhr mount weighs 1.4kg, with the 30MOA I get around 260 cm clicks upward. The rifle is 3040 grams, moderator ~310grams Total 4.75kg or 10.45lb Maybe 200 grams less with the 3-20 and another 150grams with lighter mounts. edi

Thanks GYR. Lee that is some Setup, looks heavy though. edi
-
Lee, what rifle/barrel was that? Treedave, worst case if you have a similar barrel to mine with 24mm on the outside and a Hausken mod with ~24mm you could turn it out by 0.3-0.4mm. I did mine on one of those mickey mouse table lathes. Just have to heat up the section where the threaded part is in and unscrew the front baffle section off. That then fits into a small lathe. I used to run a 300wm through that mod, now I will only use the CM and 308. edi

Possibly. John Lambert Firearms is the Irish Importer. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Outdoor---Sporting-Goods-Company/John-Lambert-Firearms-LTD-209426942868407/ edi

Hausken also have front mounted mods or? The carbon barrels are getting quite popular in Ireland and therefore our importer is getting the JD224 version with the larger barrel opening. Lee the 143 Eld are on my list. At the moment I only have the 136 Sako. Did a small bit of lapping on the barrel and shot her again today. Lightened the trigger a bit too. Zero check had two shots overlapping (3 clicks high). Then dropped a fox across the valley. First kill for this rifle. Fox lying at ~ 2 mil right 1.5mil above crosshair. edi

+1 Go for a 700 if possible, so much more out there. edi

Treedave, Hausken seem to have a version that fits over a 24mm barrel now. I am waiting delivery of one. The one on the rifle is Hausken also, I took it apart and bored out the back by 0.3-0.4mm on a lathe. Hole was initially 24mm and barrel also but would not go over. Ronin yes the are many lighter options, I am a bit careful with scopes on test or loan. Spuhr are bullet proof and don't seem to leave marks behind on the scope tube. I must get a set of their new hunting range of one piece mounts they are much lighter. What I like on the Spuhr rail, Spuhr mounts noticed now with the last few rifles is that the scope was out only by a few clicks from it's centre setting when zeroing. With this rifle it was only 6 clicks. edi

Trucraft, I'll test this on crows and maybe a fox but would prefer ELD X for deer if they work well. Thanks Ronin, that is the idea. Might put the lighter 3-20x50 Ultra short on if it is used purely for stalking. edi
