22 LR Average Group from your gun
fourtyvoats replied to Ronin's topic in Varmint Rifles & Heavy Plinkers
I have no doubt that the Voodoo rifles are very good and accurate. The question you have to ask is "are they more accurate than a stock 1710" or even "are they more accurate than a tricked out 1710", either of which costs less money. When you look at all the variables that go into setting up a .22LR to shoot well, the most significant of which is the shooter, this would be a time consuming and expensive trial to create. -
She certainly has better teeth than most of us.

My club range in Ireland has to provide a sound test report , to the County Council Planning Authority, from an independent expert every two years. We have established an upper level for the sound allowed and we ensure we stick to it. We shoot small bore rifle, small bore and center fire pistol and a full clay layout. A near bye club was forced to close it's rifle and pistol ranges recently, because of noise complaints from local residents. Sound, along with lead are to two major environmental problems that clubs will have to deal with. Both cost money.

22 LR Average Group from your gun

It is even harder if you are shooting a bench rest rifle in a competition as each rifle set up predicates a certain accuracy expectation. The most accurate expectation of group size is when you shoot a BR rifle. Therefore the challenge is much higher than when you shoot a semi auto with stingers. The rifle will do it's bit but can you? -
Classy!

They are available from Target Rifle suppliers such as intershoot ahg Anschutz Round Bolt Handle (intershoot.co.uk) I think DIP, referenced above, also do one. Most Anschutz bolts have an eight mm thread(-). It is usually hard to get the old bolt off as they are epoxied as well as screwed on. Heat some times works but my attempt resulted in the disintegration of the old plastic knob . New one just screwed on.

I just replaced the bolt knob on an Anschutz 1712. Handles better and looks better.

Shot recently on a very still day at 50 metres . Rifle was Anschutz 1712 in an MDT stock. Ammo was red SKC.A perfect 200 although one shot needed gauging and was in. -
The target below was shot in a recent National Level Competition in Ireland. The target is derived from the ISSF(Olympic) style target .The bull is 10mm across . The "X" ring is 5 mm. The shooter has 20 minutes to shoot as many sighters as he wants( on two bulls above the 4 shown in the photo), plus the 20 scoring shots, 5 in each bull. The score is 200 out of 200 and you can see the group sizes. This was not a fluke as the shooter has shot the same in other competitions. The Rifle used was a stock version of the Anschutz 1761 MPR as delivered from the factory. The action is a joy to use, as is the trigger. The ammunition used was SKC Rifle Match(red box) One factor which has not been discussed in this thread so far is weight. The weight of this rifle, with scope, as shot is just on 10 lb. This competition has an overall weight limit of 10.5 lb. All of the Rem 700 type rimfire actions weight a lot more.. If you are weight limited where will you put the weight? I suspect you will put it into the barrel if you can.

Just to put the cat amongst the pigeons, this target was shot recently in a 50 metre prone bipod based match in a National Level Competition at our club in Ireland. The Rifle is the MPR version of the new Anschutz 1761. Off the shelf. No, tuning, using SKC red box Rifle match ammo. I have tried this rifle and it is superb. Ergonomics, trigger, bolt action etc,.Nothing to improve. Compare this with a Voodoo, which uses a Center fire type receiver and must weigh a lot more. -
I got one of these from Blake Barrel in the USA, Fully adjustable.

Nothing special here. Just batch testing SKC match ammo in a rifle with known accuracy at 50 Metres. Rifle is Anschutz 1712 resting in an MDT LSS stock. It is usually used as a Silhouette rifle in a bedded McMillan Stock. Top bull was to get zero. Next two down were using a soft rear bag. Bottom two bulls were using a SEB hard rear bag. In general, across 3 different rifles, I have not found any ammo to be better than SKC Rifle match and that includes all the usual high end brands. The target is the standard ISU 50 Metre Match rifle target. modified for use with scopes, hence the white centre . -
They are part of the original Running Boar set up and are designed to balance the rifle to the choice of each individual, in the standing position. The Barrel is short, 45cm, and has a screwed on extension, which the weights fit on. As Anschutz target rifles go, the overall weight is less than most. This is what it looks like in the original stock.
-
This is an Anschutz 1408 ED super with an "X" serial number. Originally a Running Boar rifle, now repurposed with a a custom stock as shown for use as a Metallic Silhouette rifle. Also used with a Cicognani stock as a Light Varmint BR rifle. The bulge at the end of the barrel is an adjustable weight, not a moderator.

I am interested. Is it carbine to carbine? -
The ultimate Rimfire scope for all uses is an old model Leupold VX3 EFR. Super optics, focus from 10 yds to infinity, 1 inch tube which saves a lot of weight(very important in some classes of competitive shooting including Silhouette, which your rifle was designed for). Can be has found for half your budget. Some were even modified by Premier reticles for AIR rifle Field Target use with "Horus" type reticles.

This report is a very good neutral description of what the writer found to be an excellent rifle . https://www.thamesvalleyguns.co.uk/Alpine TPG 1.pdf -
