  1. Plusgas is £10.95 for 500mls.........I used it to  loosen rusted in cylinder head studs after busting two sockets, and bending a breaker bar.........it works.

I've found that a lot of gun maintenance stuff is stupidly expensive, and standard engineering products, like Plusgas, are as good as or better.

  2. You need to speak to 1066 for tech details. There are various technologies that can achieve this. His version is just so convenient and easy to use.

It's a no brainer because apart from the 100% reliable triggering, as long as it's still pointing at the target, the Labradar itself can be within easy reach of the shooter, not at the end of the barrel.

  3. I've had a Labradar for a couple of years, and up until now, I've not been 100% happy with it. When it worked, it was OK, but frequent triggering & bullet acquisition failures, plus the pain of trying to reset/adjust it while shooting prone, (I don't have a smartphone or 1 metre long arms), have led to it slowly moving to the back of the cupboard while I checked out the latest Magnetospeed.................until today.

A chance comment by another forum member led me to 1066 on this forum, and his Labradar recoil trigger project. I tried it for the first time this morning, and I have to say I'm impressed. Two of us fired a total of 110 rounds, using the trigger attached to a couple of rifles, one to an Anschutz rail under the fore end of a 6BR, and another with the trigger lashed on to a bipod leg with the supplied velcro tape, this time a 6.5x47. It was 100% reliable, not a single failure to trigger/acquire the bullet and record the velocity, and all with the unit comfortably within reach to adjust and reset without needing to get up or wriggle forward. As it's not in contact with the barrel or action, it doesn't affect the barrel harmonics, so no change in POI when in use.

    Highly recommended.

  4. It is a VERY daft question, and would probably result in a split case neck or collapsed case shoulder. As already mentioned, if you did manage to seat the bullet, the resulting pressure spike could prove "interesting"...............have you done much reloading?

  5. How often do you clean out the action, and how do you do it? This is my approach, using the ultrasonic cleaning bath (full of water), plus a 500ml measuring cylinder with enough paraffin to cover the action.

After 15 mins or so, I mop off excess paraffin, and rinse the inside out with a good squirt of brake cleaner which dries in seconds. Takes around 45 mins, including dismantling and re-assembly after lubing.

I've seen shaped brushes etc. for reaching the lug faces, but I've found this to be the simplest way.

Even if you don't have a suitable ultrasonic bath, simply working the action up and down in the cylinder of solvent will achieve the same result, especially if you use a better solvent like petrol.

  6. Did you check the bore before firing it for the first time? It looks very much like a faulty new barrel a colleague showed me a couple of years ago..........it was returned.

Maybe a faulty billet was used to pull the original blank.......it looks a bit extreme for rust in such a short time, and you would have noticed it when cleaning before it got this bad.
