  1. Triffid +1...........I don't have a bubble, and the argument that one shouldn't take any risks because they may have to rely on someone else if things go tits-up is frankly, risible............

Are you really suggesting that people shouldn't climb, dive, fly, bunjee jump, paraglide, ride horses, or even ride a bicycle, in case the unexpected happens and someone else has to take responsibility??

    Get real.......

  2. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-4-stay-at-home#sports-and-physical-activity

To echo what Martin B said........

    Sports and physical activity

Indoor gyms and sports facilities will close. Outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery/driving/shooting ranges, riding centres and playgrounds can remain open for individual exercise, and for people to use with others within your household, support bubble, or with one person from another household. Organised outdoor sport for under 18s and disabled people will be allowed.

It does say "shooting ranges and individual exercise", so I'd say Bisley would be within the rules.

  3. I use an old Mettler laboratory balance for weighing powder, which weighs in grams to 3 decimal places. (0.001grams or 0.015 grains). I was an analytical chemist, back in the day...............

The 136 Scenar "L"s are very consistent in weight and length.

  4. As far as I can ascertain, the Intarso system relies on the bullet passing through two rubber membranes. The vibrations are picked up by three sensors along the base of each frame, and this enables the software to plot the position of the hit by triangulation.

The Shotmarker and Kongsberg systems detect sonic "boom" as the bullet passes through what is effectively an open cube with a sensor at each corner. The only downside is that the round must be supersonic as it passes through the target face.

If you happen to get to use the Intarso's immediately after the membranes (which are consumables) have been replaced, you will get very accurate feedback. However, if the centre has been shot out over a busy weekend.........

With the other types, there doesn't appear to be any maintenance other than replacing the target face, or a sensor if one gets shot.

  5. We've had similar experiences using the Intarso electronics at 900 and 600 yds, but we've always recorded much better results using the Shotmarker & Kongsberg systems at 300yds.

Obviously the shorter distance helps, but when you've had 3 or 4 V's at 600 yds, and then the rest of the ten are spread all over the place, you can't help thinking is it me or is something wrong with the target system.

What we did find with the Intarso system was that we got much better groups by aiming off centre.

  6. I have a very good load for my 6.5x47 using 136 grain Scenar "L"'s : 2.63 grms RS60, KVB-223M primer, Lapua case, COL 70.0mm.

The 123 grain Scenar also gives very good results using 2.5 grms of RS50 powder.

Barrel is 760mm length, 1:8 twist.

    Usual caveats apply.......

  7. Me too, and I'm thinking WTF when I read this:

As the number of component parts used in the illegal manufacture of ammunition is estimated to be negligible compared to the number of legally held components, it has been assumed that the restrictions will not impact the size of the legal market.

Well it may well affect the legal market if I can no longer buy bullets in bulk................What planet are these people from, and how much have they paid to "consultants" to come up with this?

  8. This the salient point, "These" referring to bullets & cases............

" The proposed change would be to make it an offence to possess these without a licence if it can be shown there is intent to use them to make ammunition. "

What isn't clear is "licence".......do they mean an existing FAC, a condition added to an FAC, or a new thing altogether?

Understanding why anyone would want to possess them for any reason other than making ammunition is above my pay scale, but then, what do I know?

  9. The EU dealer where I get bullets and cases has always required a scan of my UK FAC to be attached to the order, showing the front page and the entitlement page, and will only ship to the address shown on it.

    I don't see a problem if that's implemented here.
