  1. I use factory coated 6mm 115grn DTAC's in my 6x47, and I've coated various other bullets myself........it does reduce fouling, and also reduces MV a bit, so there is some reduction in friction.

As to whether or not it's worth it as far as achieving smaller groups are concerned, the jury's out........suck it and see, it won't do any harm.

  2. The barrel on the rifle that I mentioned earlier in this thread is a 30" Lothar-Walther 8 twist s/steel (button rifled), dating from 2007. It was "well used" with unknown round count when I got it in 2013, and I've since put around 2500 rounds through it. The throat area and first 100-150mm is badly fire cracked as can be seen in the pic. However, the forward 60% of the barrel is good, and it can still shoot a sub 1 MOA group.

  3. I think it's a case of whatever works for you...........if you feel confident that your procedure is good, then you'll feel good, and probably shoot good.

There are many aspects of shooting that fall into the "black art" category. I recently shot a 0.64 moa 10-shot group at 300yds with a 6BR barrel that was described as "toast" a while back by someone who saw my borescope photo of the throat.

I'm assuming the Shotmarker system was working OK.........🙂

  4. There's scope for a decent 2-stage fully adjustable match trigger at a sensible price...........I'm in the frustrating position of owning an old Musgrave target action with a 6BR barrel that'll still shoot 1/2 MOA, but with a trigger that's definitely  on borrowed time, and there's no longer any alternative available.......

And what JDT just said  +1...

  5. I have a CG-RPA 2000 which has an 11mm dovetail machined into the reciever. I use Optilock bases and rings which have a nylon insert.

I needed  a bit more elevation to get this up to 1000yds.

Placing a shim between the rear base and ring doesn't stress the scope body at all, as the nylon inserts move in the rings like a ball and socket.

I made one up from a bit of 0.75mm brass sheet.
