I'd have thought the expiry date of an FAC is burnt so deeply into the brain of a legal FAC holder that it would transcend any distractions such as holidays, sickness, or "being away when the reminder letter came".............

Slightly off topic, but I got a spare firing pin assy for a Tikka M595 from Edgar Bros., through a local RFD....£50, came assembled with spring etc. ready to drop in.

Last autumn, Hampshire sent out my renewal reminder 16 weeks before expiry date, and indicated that if they did not receive my application at least eight weeks before expiry date, and as a result were unable to process it  in time, I will need to lodge firearms etc. with an RFD.

So it SOUNDS that as long as they receive your application at least eight weeks before expiry date, you'll be OK..........they don't actually spell it out, though.

That makes no difference.......I just logged in twice, with the remember me box ticked.

The first time, I got straight in no problem. Then I logged out, restarted the computer, logged back in and I got the error message.............weird.

I guess it could be something my end, but it always used to be fine, and I haven't changed anything. (wittingly, that is....)

I used two small dollops of Loctite super glue (away from the holes) on my 6.5x47, and just squinched the 4 bolts up finger tight with a small screwdriver.

Make your own cleaning patches for a fraction of the cost of the commercial types.

 1" wad punch with the top cut off so it would fit between the jaws of my vice, a roll of 4x2 from Kranks, and a 4" square bit of 3mm alluminium.

I won't insult your intelligence by going into details of how to use the punch..............suffice it to say I've made hundreds of these patches, and the one size fits 223 singly, double up for 6mm and 6.5mm.

Who'd have thought that a strip of plastic a few thou thick is all that locks the magazine into a 595........luckily, I also have a British made aftermarket aluminium bottom-metal......

I've just measured my Sightron 8-32 x 56 hood, and it's M62 x 0.75, so there's a slim chance that a Sightron hood will fit your IOR.

I've remembered a place where I bought odd-sized threaded filters for experimental laser stuff back in the day. Apparently, they still make filters & hoods to measure.....see here:

The form is in Romanian, but they all speak English. You never know, make the right noises and there could be a freebie........

They were right about the threads.....you can get hoods in every thread size but.

For what it's worth, I have the IOR 6-24 x 50 (the fat tacticool version that uses 35mm rings).

I just measured it with a Mitutoyo and a thread gauge, and the thread size is 54 x 0.75.

So you can turn up to shoot as a member of an affiliated club, discover that for some reason or other your rifle has lost zero, and then not be able to use the zero range?

I bet that would go down well if you'd just driven 100mls to get there..........

Individual full members of the NRA, with a valid SCC, can book a target and shoot solo at Bisley if they wish........I'm one of them.

AFAIK, members of affiliated clubs can only shoot if the booking is made by an official of their club, rather than any individual member, and there would need to be more than one member present for it to qualify as a club booking.

Then again, I may be wrong...

I've read bits of this story over the last couple of years, but I'm not completely clear on what happened.....am I correct in thinking that the construction went ahead despite no formal planning permission being granted?
