  1. l remember a letter from an RM armourer published in the now sadly defunct Handgunner magazine, listing the deficiencies of SA-80. He’d been induced to write in by a “straw/camel’s back” moment that had just occurred: one of his booties had been cleaning an SA-80 in his presence, and - using nothing more than arm power and an issued pull-through - had managed to tear the barrel free from the receiver. The sight of the bewildered man, receiver in one hand, barrel swinging free from the cord in the other, had compelled him to break silence. maximus otter
  2. Thanks for the reply. l think l’ve hunted one down, courtesy of a shooting pal. maximus otter
  3. l’ve just bought a brand new Hawke Vantage 30 WA SF IR scope. lt didn’t even occur to me to bring home the packaging and supplied Allen key, as l have a large collection at home in both Imperial and metric. So, obviously, l don’t have the correct - tiny! - size. What size of key fits the three grub screws for the zero stop in a Hawke turret, please? maximus otter
  4. l didn’t do anything except make the request of Mr. B. The reticle appeared about five days later (from memory). maximus otter
  5. The reticle has now been added to Strelok Pro. Top customer service and a fast response from Mr. Borisov. I have thanked him and added a 5* review to his app. maximus otter
  6. I’ve just checked again: lt has the 4-12 x 50 in .22LR and the 4-16 x 50 in .17HMR. m.o.
  7. I'm having my well-loved Sako Finnfire Varmint refurbished, and replacing a good but inappropriate Leupold 'scope on it. My question: I use Strelok Pro as my ballistic app. It has an excellent range of reticles, but I can't seem to find an exact match for the one I've ordered, which is the one included in the Hawke Vantage 30 WA SF IR 4-16 X 50, Model 14-293. (Illustration is from a slightly different model of 'scope). Have I missed something, or has Mr. Borisov just not got around to including it yet? maximus otter
  8. Pugnacious, rude nonsense. maximus otter
  9. https://secure.ofcom.org.uk/busrad/br_guidance.pdf Probably “Simple UK Light” at £75 for five years. maximus otter
  10. l do, with a simple hand tool; large primer size at one end, small at the other. Obvious products of combustion remain in the pocket after firing; and it’s quicker than visually inspecting cases after tumbling, then having to clear tumbling media from the flash hole of 80% of the cleaned cases. l’ve just started to experiment with the memsahib’s ultrasonic cleaner. This may be the ultimate solution. maximus otter
  11. I did 30 years in the UK police, 23½ of them out on the cobbles as a uniformed beat officer. I very rarely dealt with anyone who stole food or drink, other than for resale, or luxury food/drink items for their own consumption. Theft of beans, cornflakes, cheese etc. (the kind of stuff included in food bank parcels)? Close to zero. I would argue that genuine poverty, let alone extreme poverty, doesn't exist in the UK. There are, however, a lot of people who consistently make poor choices... maximus otter
  12. 1. Roughly 60% of US households don't own guns. 2. Fire extinguishers don't "deter" fire, but they make it considerably easier to deal with. maximus otter
  13. "At least four states in the U.S. have started to release inmates from their jails to protect vulnerable inmates as coronavirus infections have begun to appear from within." https://www.foxnews.com/health/us-starts-release-inmates-coronavirus "The Seattle coronavirus crime data is staggeringly high. As of Friday April 3, burglary cases were up 87% over the previous 28 days..." https://mynorthwest.com/1802378/rantz-seattle-crime-up-after-coronavirus/ maximus otter
  14. My stalking mentor, a professional stalker on a large estate in Scotland, said that “The standard of debate on SD would disgrace an 8-year-old.” l found this out to my cost when l posted some carefully-researched information about a popular stalking load. All of the Colonel Faw-Faws (who seem to swarm on SD) pounced on me to tell me that what two different makes of chronograph - in the hands of two experienced users - had indicated, couldn’t in fact have happened. My polite attempts to restate my case were met with them metaphorically sticking their fingers in their ears and chanting “La-la-la, didn’t happen!” maximus otter
  15. The answer is simply to email Swarovski, and the lovely Cornelia will send you a pair of strap loop connectors free of charge, direct to your home (as I've now found out). maximus otter
  16. I've just received my new Kuiu binocular harness, ordered from the USA based on its reviews. I want to use it with my new (2019) Swarovski EL Range 8 x 42 bins. On opening the package, I've fallen at the first hurdle: The securing of the Kuiu harness to the bins depends on the bins having a permanent loop attached to each barrel. The straps of the Kuiu thread through said loops. Unfortunately, the new Swarovskis have only a flush-mounted pin arrangement for attaching their own strap: I can't even detach the paracord from the Swarovskis' own neck strap to connect to the Kuiu, as it's held inside a sealed buckle-type arrangement. Am I missing something, or do I have to fork out £15 to send the Kuiu back to the States? maximus otter
  17. Does anyone know of a UK retailer with stocks of the Kuiu binocular harness? Second question: Does the “Large” in said harness fit the Swarovski 8 x 42 EL Range? maximus otter
  18. Would this database help? maximus otter
  19. l, too, have had one for years, and l can put a shaving edge on a knife with it in five minutes. maximus otter
