Derekhogg
Hi, I’m on the good old knowledge cadge!! I was wondering a couple of things, firstly is anyone using the 162 eldx in a .284 win and do they work as intended? Secondly what loads does anyone have ? I’ve a fair whack of rs60/62 here which I was hoping to use. It’s getting built on a long action and throated out as far as it can be, it’s going out of a 1-8.5” twist 24” sassen barrel. Thanks for any info 👍
Elwood
Both powders will work, but I would go with RS62 first. No reason the ELDX wouldn’t work.
Derekhogg
Perfect thanks for the help👍 I’m glad because I’ve plenty powder and I managed to buy 800 eldx as it’s all I could find. What kind of speed do you think I will achieve? (Obviously speed isn’t everything but I’m just curious)
No i deer
I run my 284 on 162gr eldx's for hunting on 54.8grs of N160.. 2900fps plus My chamber was cut by Neil Mckillop for 160 to 180gr bullets i believe.. 2560 shots down the barrel and still shooting superbly. They're very accurate indeed and expand as you would like.

Derekhogg
That’s in the ball park fps wise definitely. Anywhere around that I will be chuffed. Shoots well that rifle by the looks to👍
No i deer
Figures entered into my bal cal at the time of testing just before we went into lockdown.
Derekhogg
Thanks for that👍
No i deer
I took it up to 55.7grs but the accuracy wasn't so good.
Derekhogg
I will see how I go, what ever happens it will be more suited to me than the creedmoor😂tried it and it just didn’t float my boat at all!
No i deer
IMO the 284 is the best around cartridge.. It's my stalking and Tac rifle. It's shoots great at 1000yds with 180gr hybrids
Derekhogg
I have a 7rem mag shooting copper which I like but it’s heavy so I tend to use it for sika because it’s more sitting than stalking, hence why I’m building a lightweight .284 for humfing around chasing foxes and I can load copper if I take the urge and still get good speed, ( I wanted something that was light but can stretch out the yardage and preform better than the creed or similar with a heavier bullet which is bound to help in all terms)😂 my .260 ack it heavy to but it’s my fox sitting out rifle and my .270 is my roe/red rifle again shooting copper. skany
Love a 284 Mines currently a shehane although I don't see much improvement on my over the standard forming load overall to be honest with regard to velocity. had a fox at 680M with the other week so it defiantly gets the job done with 180g elds,(ive not used 162s in this barrel but i get around 2800 with 180s

My rifle is running 3250fps with yew tree 130G coppers & absolutely drills them.(ive seen as high as 3400fps)

That was one of the many issues I had with the creed,it only had a short barrel so couldn’t get the speed with copper.

I was shooting 600yds snaps and 3 blew up during the coarse of fire.. It was a cold morning and they were doing 2770fps according to my bal cal.. Stopped using them after as it cost me too many points. I've used 100s of 180gr berger hybrids since and no issues..

That’s why when I had the chance of the 800 eldx I just bought them.
No i deer
I did used to shoot the 162gr amaxes before the 162gr eldx's and they shot great on 57grs of N165.. I did test some on RS60 but I can't really remember about the accuracy..!! I may have an old target kicking around.. 52.5grs of RS60 rings a bell and I think I also tried 53grs and they were doing well over 3000fps

If I hit 3000 fps odd I would be delighted but it’s not vital
