No i deer
I'm mounting a 30mm tube with a 50mm objective lens on my CZ452 varmint.. I want too keep the objective lens as close as possible too the factory varmint barrel.. Will it be low medium or high rings..? Cheers NID
Leeman
You would probably need to decide on which manufacturer of the rings you are going to use and check the relevant heights of those rings as there is no 'standard' when it comes to ring height designation. Most manufacturers will have guidance on their websites as to the dimensions of the various heights they offer.
Woodlander
You should get away with low rings, possibly medium, but you won’t need high. Wherever/whoever you buy them from, might be able to advise.

No i deer
As the s tac scope is that much longer do I need a reach forward mount like this too support the scope on the front ring
Richiew
This is what I needed to fit my anschutz . Hawke 6-24x56 . 16.5” or 42 cms overall length. Otherwise the eye piece would not be at trigger end of the thumbhole.
No i deer
Hi Richie.. How much reach forward was the step in the scope..?
Richiew
30 mm I think according to the web page . I know it’s on a hw100 but I left the rings as they were on the .22 lr so basically the gap between the rings fits across the ejection port . No i deer
I like too have my rings even on the scope body.. I sold a scope then put this leupold on that has a smaller objective lens hence the clearance.. I can find the 30mm high reach forward rings but can't seem too find them in medium.. I don't want a big gap
Richiew
Spuhr do a hunting range of mounts but they will be more cash than sportsmatch.

No i deer
Tried some medium mounts a mate had.. Approx 1mm gap between scope and barrel.. Not sure on the front mount.. Do I need a 1 inch forward extension mount too support the scope further out..??
Richiew
If the eye relief is good for you I’d stick with what you’ve got. Just make sure the cases eject ok . Or as I do pick them out individually and put them in a pocket so the farmer doesn’t get upset that his sheep might ingest some metal . Anything for an easy stress free time . No i deer
I did think about the cases ejecting past the windage turret.. I've never heard that mentioned before so I thought it's probaly OK.. I'll find out tomorrow afternoon hopefully..
Richiew
Hope it all works out good. A good strong pull on the bolt should eject the cases past the turret , or a slow pull and finger the case out ?? Whatever is your preference . cheers
No i deer
Eye relief seemed ok shouldering the rifle but I probaly won't know until I take some prone shots. The s tac is in almost the identical position as the leupold was.. The fast focus eye piece is just a little further out now too get the reticle crisp.. All my scopes are like that.. My eyes getting older. It might pay to put a small piece of insulation tape on the turret just incase the ejecting cases scratch the turret cap.. Maybe the extra height from a high mount would be better after all if it helps the case ejection..!!
Richiew
Next height up would allow scope covers to be fitted? . I only use front cover with my drops taped to it . I’ve fitted a picatinny rail to the 17 hmr and used same size mounts so have a 1/2” gap to the barrel but I just put all the details into StrelokPro and print off a card with the reticle info . Hope alls gone to plan today . cheers
