Guest martin
I certainly wouldn't join the B.A.S.C. and,I am with S.A.C.S. and,at twenty odd quid with insurance it is a far better option...IMO............martin
menial 1
BASC no, NGO yes. I can't believe people still support BASC, these people will sell shooting down the river if they keep cowtowing to the HO the way they have in the recent past. Once an organisation to be recommended, now top heavy with many social climbing hangers on to be paid for by the membership. They seem to have lost their way and the members need to vote with their feet to give them the kick up the arse they need to get them back on track. Pete. eldon
Same as Martin. Stopped feeding BASC a while ago. SACS or NGO seem the better options. Just IMHO.
Orka Akinse
Kevlar Body suit ON with just slits for eye holes and a P*ss flap!!!! BASC for me, up the socialist hangers on, Swifty for president Oops sorry I meant PM. Good value, Good advice and all round good people. Just an observation it is interesting from the posts the two big organisations should take note of these results BASC for all the bad press they get but possibly worse still, it is quiet on all things BDS.........intersting. Guest the croc
BASC for me, it comes as part of belonging to a Wildfowling club, (and it's cheaper when you belong to a club) I became an individual member in about 1984/5 and have been with them ever since. Yes their not perfect and still get things wrong, as for insurance yes its vital when you go shooting, but don't go with an organisation just because their insurance covers you for £billions but only costs 2p. Its all the other things that the organisation does that is more important, Firearms team and backup. legal team, sorting out leases etc and all the other things you might need to help you with the sport. It all depends on your shooting needs, ie no good belonging to BASC, CA, NGO if your purely a competion clay shooter. Brian
Bazooka Joe
I was with BASC when they were WABGI, then they started to get to expensive, so I changed to the NGO...OK till I seen a break down of there Insurance Policy...your not covered for much...swapped to SACS, yes they have had there problems, like the rest, but you are Insured for EVERYTHING you do in Field Sports/Fishing/Dogs....& a bonus on top for me, insured for keeping birds, believe it or not. If you only want Insurance, then SACS has the best option, BJ.
Streeker59
I have to admit i'm a BASC man. Been a member for more than 20 years. To be honest, i didn't know there was an alternative. I also have to admit that i bin the magazine without reading now. The hunting world they portray and hunting as i see & do are worlds apart. The mag reads more like Horse & Hound that adorns GP's surgerys waiting rooms the world over. Now i know of alternatives, i will hunt around.....pun intended..... Ronin
I am with BDS, but am also a BASC member for the stalking opportinuties, although Arran may be a great place for just a walk now The BDS insurance is extra, BASC is inclusive (I think) I am also member of various rifle clubs but not the NRA - mybe I should join this too and be able to shoot at Bisley........the place would surely captivate me I am sure (due to the history of the place)
Vermincinerator
I have just joined BASC for the first time after being with the SRA for many years. I read all this stuff about BASC not being good value for money etc.... but what swung it for me is that they are the biggest and the most recognisable, which IMO is a bit of a bonus when approaching landowners for new permissions. cooper
I did join the BASC again though I agree the policies they are sitting in bed with are ugly too say the least, would have done SACS but there was some infighting and amigouity and in the end I had had no reminder and therefore was out of insurance and had too go back with the BASC, next time I'll not be caught out, I have too say they don't reply too e-mails with concerns about policy either but have an ever growing number of staff or lachies that should be doing the job ....not good and not happy. P.S the quarterlies turned into complete drivel as well !!

Streeker59
I am also member of various rifle clubs but not the NRA - mybe I should join this too and be able to shoot at Bisley........the place would surely captivate me I am sure (due to the history of the place) I first stepped on the hallowed soil of Bisley in 1983 and fell in love with the place. I sort of had a deja vu about it. It's definitely like stepping through a time warp. The colonial style buildings etc. It's just a shame that the targetry is from the same period. Yes there are a limited number of electronic targets avail on Century at 600 yards & 300 meters but they are very expensive to hire and are far from reliable. The hierarchy have forgotten us gravel bellies and spent money on a very expensive clay layout and an indoor air & rimfire range. Those of us that have to get down and dirty dont even get a roof over our heads when it rains. Having said all that, the place will indeed captivate you Ronin. I'm down with my club on the 22nd of this month if you'd like to put that AW to the test mate.... Grant..

Alycidon
BASC for me and my shoots. Not the cheapest no but their Firearms guys are excellent at supporting members when errant FEO's try it on. Mine even tried it on me at my last renewal, told me the law had on buying stalking by the day had changed 2 years before !. WRONG ! He wont be doing that to me again, BASC leant on his boss who in fairness knew her FEO was wrong. You only find out the value of you policy if you ever have a claim, some like the NFU are excellent payers and worth a bit more on the premium. I will start another thread on insurance issues.
