Grouse
Anybody experience thrown/erratic shots from incorrect annealing? Have some cases that Dave annealed for me using a great machine, which shoot very well. Then a few that were hand annealed that are erratic and throw shots out to 2" groups? Is this an issue with ID of necks? Hand annealed ones did feel inconsistent when seating bullets?
MJR
Yes. I found inconsistent annealing produced erratic groups due I think to inconsistent neck tension. Properly and consistently annealed cases always seems to seat the bullet smoother and easier and it's these rounds that give the best groups. I now anneal all of my 'accuracy' rounds and I am currently looking at the best ways to measure bullet seating pressure.
triggersqueezer
sure mjr knows better than me but 2" is too much to be that imo.i would think .50 max unless you have really destroyed them with a blow torch.
MJR
Yep, sorry, missed the 2" part. I've never experienced that much of a problem with incorrect annealing.
Grouse
I also thought 2" was excessive - will look into it further.
gunner
Grouse , how old is the brass ? Had many firings ? Just a thought but could you not just size the neck again after annealing just to try to get them all uniform ? As form me neck sizing is quick and easy normally . Atb tim . markyw2
Quick question on the neck tension comment. Would factory crimping alleviate this issue? Regards Mark
John MH
I anneal all my cases on the same machine as Dave, they are very uniform. I have an upgrade for the machine on order that will make it even more awesome.
