22/250 foxer

Thanks I phoned him thru Gunstar, yes he has 2 rifles that I was thinking of buying, he asked me what I wanted it for, and after a chat he explained some advantages that the 1 in 12 has over the 1 in 8 ( given usage, bullet weight, range,). So more to think about.

I have had a look at various 1 in 12 v 1 in 8 topics and it seems to me that 1 in 8 may not be the magic rate for me.

I"ve got to make a honest pro and con list about my shooting, which loads of people on here say to do

Thanks to all for your time.

Thoughts on 1 in 8 v 1 in 12.

My current rifle has a 1in 9 twist, I knew when I bought it, (have never shot any thing heavier than 55g thru it).

I disposed of some 55g bullets that I thought were a bargin, but found out later that 1 in 12 twist was the quickest recommended

I also gave away some 69 grain that I did not have powder for.

I have never shot vermin past 250 ish yards

I do not intend to shoot competition? targets.

At my age I like being out, enjoying the moment, and in the past I have let foxes walk because I did not like the wind conditions,( a heavier bullet would not have convinced me)

At the moment I have loads for 55 and 50g that work ( perhaps they may need tweeking for a new gun).

I do not fancy any more load development.

Was the 1 in 12 twist developed by the millitary for 55g?

This is what I remember from phone conversations, (I may be misquoting a little )

A faster twist wears out quicker.(how much quicker, who knows).

A 1in 12 is more efficient on the lighter bullets, upto the ranges I shoot, (although I think its minimal to the average shooter, like me)

The basic thing is, I was looking at a "cure all" twist that I might use, but will not.

I got caught up in a "hot to trot moment".

Sorry to have been a pain in the glutus maximus, when I should have sat and thought about it before posting

I am going to phone uncle Norm and tell him to order a 1 in

Thanks to all

what wears the barrel out as far as i know, is ramming hot loads down it.

1:12 twist was designed for hunting, as the milatry use 1:7 in .223/5.56

the 1:8 will shoot the 50s and 55grs you like

if its for fox as you say and no long range target then, the 1:12 is right for you and i dont see the need for it to be varmint barrel either, unless you like the extra weight

From your intended use the 1-12" sounds like it will do the job.

I have owned a 1-8" T3 and only shot factory 50gr ammo through it. I wish I never sold that rifle.

You really should be doing load development for any new rifle.

And i bought it!

And i wish i hadnt sold too!

Does anyone know if there is a after market trigger that it's into the t3

tbh there pretty spot on as they are, very adjustable but, if you just want it lighter then, dave from valkyrie rifles does springs for a good price, and hes on here.
