gbal
So I am looking forward to getting my AI AE 6.5x47 and can't wait to stretch its legs, I mainly shoot at Lydd and Hythe military ranges where there are fig11 (I thinks that's there name) targets are out to 1100M. I am looking to find somewhere local that I can shoot to a mile, to practice and see what I can do. Also looking forward to meeting a few of you at the fly shoot in August, FYI the 4th August if you need to book time off work in advance like I do. But my question is how far have you guys shot and how effectively? The S 50 is currently being tested (this is the 50 browning, necked to take a singer sewing machine needle)-absolute performance data is still classified, but a recent accuracy test was encouraging. The needle was fired in reverse mode (eye first),so the BC was way down, but it successfully threaded itself on the trimmed end of a standard cotton reel thread target,in the next but one county. george

Andrew
On a dare, a dirt clod at just under 280M with a 22LR. Took two shots. When I shot 500M comps we would often set the targets at the 750M mark which was the extent of our range. This would be a 12" square. I guess that would be mine. Three-oh-eight.~Andrew

ejg223
I thought the CL-89 only had a range of 60km Edi? If I remember right one could remove the top mid section that could also carry the 12? magnesium flash cartridges and replaced that with an extra fuel tank. We only did a few flights in that config. Think the radar detection (transponder?) also needed to stay back. Once the 30kg of solid booster ignited one thought the leo's firing next to us sounded like pop guns. That was a while ago... Still have a wing and a break chute lying around somewhere. edi

6.5Grendel
1160yds. Used up an alarming number of 308 rounds trying to hit a 10" gong at WMS. Ran out without hitting it but all shots were very very close ;-) a good day that was , and I think I managed a hit although I had a few rounds left (also .308) Andy

That bald headed Geordie
During my youth I was part of the Secret Federation of Intergalactic Spies and was transported to the Ice planet Hoth 3. Which is your earth distances is 5 light years away. My task was to watch whilst living in an ice cave 20 feet below ground, the comings and goings of the dangerous enemy which you may know as 'The Empire'. To protect myself I was given a Plasma rifle which on a good day and with excellent line of sight, could knock out a Quarrrrg or any other dangerous beast, or even the enemy. Well there I was just waiting for the Empire to turn up, so it was quiet so I took a potshot at a nearby moon. Which by my reckoning was about a half a million miles or so. Anyway, it was night and I saw the plasma beam travel and hit the moon. So that is my claim to fame in the 'how long was your longest shot'. So earthlings, beat that ya buggas! PS. That shot was also noticed by the Evil Empire and the sh*t hit that fan that night. Didn't get any sleep due to bombardment. Should have kept my finger off that trigger eh. Ah well, now I am back on earth (beamed back not long afterwards and told not to play with men toys until I had grown up) it's back to the part time job. Good shooting. Canadian F-Class Guy
1700M. I shoot to 1600M all the time with a 6BR... good fun. Our property is heavily infested with "Columbia Ground Squirrels" a varmint seemingly genetically engineered for reactive ballistic enjoyment. 1000M victory tallies are especially sweet. The_Dogge
a good day that was , and I think I managed a hit although I had a few rounds left (also .308) Andy It was a good day, pity the cost to repeat it is prohibitive. I think I hit something at 1000yd (maybe even with your rifle, thanks for that), but the shot of the day for me was the ~750yd gong, shot with open sights with my Enfield No4, .303.
