Anyone who takes issue with trade prices has never run a business. Margins are low as it is, without business rates, gas, electric, salaries, NI, Pensions, stock etc etc

Businesses need a profit margin to survive

I can't see anywhere that anyone has 'taken issue' with trade pricing - my 😂 (if that's what you are referring to) was reacting to the fact that they had taken that little care in proof-reading their customer email spam - when they did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago with PARD night vision prices - way to support your retailers...

And you don't need to run a business to realise businesses require a realistic margin in order to be viable, I assume you are in the gun trade when you state margins are low?

@baldie No bother Dave, it wasn't something I was going to post - contrary to the posts above, I've been self-employed for 25 years in several pretty diverse sectors, some with huge margins for very little effort, and others quite the opposite - I have no issue with people trying to make a living...

  2. Depending on how often/much you're going to gong bash, a straight or improved 284 rather than the neck downed 6.5 might be a better option? not much in the ballistics (284imp better), more energy on target, more reasonable barrel life...latter not relevant if you're going to sit on the hill and shoot 50 rounds a year obviously :)

  3. No gunsmith but T3 is pretty basic;

6.5x55 and 284 are same bolt face +/-  so no dramas there

All T3/T3Xs are long actions with bolt stops differentiating between the various length SA/LA cartridges.  284 is technically a SA cartridge, but to use heavy/long bullets in the 284 cases you'd want to build as a LA anyway.

Swede mag OAL might be long enough.

What are you going to use it for?

Not tried any bench mounted units but could see there would (should?) be less effort.

Massively less, my fingers went from having had it after a couple of dozen cases to being able to do a couple of hundred without issue. I imagine the higher quality hand primers like XXI etc are a bit more pleasant to use than others, but the cheapo bench Autoprime works for me for 90% of my reloading. Had a couple of primers seated sideways when I first got it, but don't recall having had any side on or upside down for a couple of years, dunno if I changed anything?!

I am considering buying the A419 clear lid for the Fx120i, is it compatible with the V3 auto throw, without buying anything else, from A419

Yup, compatible with all models to date on its own.

  6. The A419 lid gives more stability to the Autothrow for sure but isn't a necessity.

I would definitely mount the scales on a separate bench if poss, unless your bench is made of granite or you are going to throw all your powder and then seat all your bullets. This will isolate it from the movement of for example seating a bullet. My bench is pretty hench, but seating a bullet using an arbour press will still inevitably cause the trickler to pause. As it usually takes 3/4 of the time of metering the next load of powder to seat a bullet, the pause will often happen during the last 0.1 of a grain of powder and the trickler won't restart again if it gets paused within <0.1 of a grain I think it is.

  7. Also have the A419 lid 😄

Need about 470mm in order to be able to remove the hopper, as it sits in a recess in the top of the Autothrow.

I'd guess using the standard A&D lid the whole thing is probably about 10mm lower.

Squeezing it under a shelf or something might make it a bit annoying; you'd need at least another 100mm or so clearance to remove the hopper lid and add more powder from a bottle instead of having to remove the hopper completely to add it for e.g.

  8. I've had V1/2/3, throwing with a cheapo Lee thrower was very little drama. Quite often would do that in favour of using autothrow if I was only loading a smallish number to save the hassle of emptying and cleaning out the earlier version autothrows. It will only add 2-3 seconds to the process tbh.

I put my name down with Adam to be a beta tester for version 4 at the start of the year .

    fingers crossed 🤞

Same as! although as Adam quite clearly states, the functionality will be no different, so for anyone thinking of an Autotrickler I'd say just buy a V3 - as V4 if you order now will be a loooong way off arriving.

  10. If you've spunked for a set of A&D scales already, I think you'd be mad not to buy an Autotrickler.

As 1oto2 says, Version 3 with the Bluetooth ready app is truly seamless and was a big step. Its great for load development for e.g. load 42.3gr then just tap +.01/+.1/+1 to load your next increment. Reliably throws to .02gr in <10s no bother.

Also found Adam a pleasure to deal with on several occasions - do it!

  11. You will not obtain greater accuracy over a set of quality beam scales. You will however cut the time it takes to produce ammo in any volume significantly, assuming you are going to pair the scales with the Autotrickler and Autothrow kit? in which case a cheaper alternative would be adding a Targetmaster setup to your beam scales.

I'm not poo poo-ing the A&D scale/Autotrickler/throw combo, I have two and would never change - but if you're hoping to see reduced SD/ES I think you'll be disappointed.  They're more of a quality of life/speed improvement than anything else.

  12. The Lee Auto Bench Prime https://www.henrykrank.com/reloading/lee-reloading/priming-tools/lee-auto-bench-prime.html is cheap and does the job about as quickly and (literally) painlessly as poss. Most others require filling tubes with primers which is a bit more of a faff. I also have a $$$Primal Rights$$$ bench primer but tbh I use the Lee the majority of the time. My fingers/hands cant cope with hand priming more than a few cases these days 😞

I don’t shoot rabbits in that volume, otherwise I’d probably be more inclined to use the 17HMR.

If I was shooting half a dozen a night, or shooting them during day time and could knock them off at range I'd probably choose to use a CF to be fair.

No wrong answer is there :)
