  1. I've been playing around with the ELD-M for range work. Quite like it so far.
  2. That’s good to know, Geek. More to think on
  3. Thanks Catch-22. I was looking at Western Powders (Ramshot) and found this interesting for their TAC loads: 68gr Hornady BTHP-M at 2.250" COAL and a compressed load 69gr Sierra HPBT at 2.260" COAL and a not compressed load Not sure why they load the bullet a bit shorter. Anyone any ideas? Scrummy
  4. Terry, you have a point. I will also persist with the 73gr ELD-Ms but something that will go a decent distance and runs through the mag would also be welcome
  5. Hi folks, Looking for some advice. Trying to get a longer range target load 1:9 twist so looking for probably max 70gr A non-compressed load that will run through a bolt action magazine (Max 2.3”) probably something without a tip (I’ve run out of length with 73gr Hornady ELD-M) Sierra 69gr? Hornady 68gr? Bergers worth the money? Powder i often used is Ramshot TAC. Any advice much appreciated. Scrummy
  6. Hope so and I can hold it straight
  7. Well, chrono’d the load yesterday 2820 FPS but it was 30+C in the shade.
  8. I did try that but I ended up with a very flat primers so chickened out. scrummy
  9. I'm hoping to get out to 1,200 yds later this month with mine. Load testing tomorrow morning. Scrummy
  10. Gotcha. Was reading Nathan Forster's forum (Ballisticstudies.com) and he was saying that if you shoot the ELD-Ms in a 7mm Practical (300 WM necked to 7mm) with a faster than 1:9 twist they will break up. Guessing your SAUM is fairly quick! Scrummy
  11. I've heard people say if you twist them too fast and at too high of an MV they have difficulties. I'm using a 1:8.25 twist and about 2750fps so guessing a fair bit less rotational force than your SAUM generates?
  12. Sorry, noted. 284W and 7x64 tend to give not dissimilar results in terms of performance hence my interest in what people were doing with 284W and the ELD-M. I was not about to advocate transferring load data between the 2. Scrummy
  13. Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I'm going to load some of this bullet this afternoon. 7x64 26", 1:8.25" Bartlein RS70 and hoping for something in the 2700 fps range Scrummy
  14. Hope it shoots for you. My CZ527 American really likes bullets in the 60gr range: Federal Fusion 62gr Soft Point goes really well in Kalahari's Varmint and my gun. Mine also likes a hand load of the 65gr Sierra SBT over Ramshot TAC (Might do better but stopped at that load as will hold fine at any range I will shoot at) Scrummy (PS, mine has the rear pillar but little if anything up front in terms of bedding compound)
  15. Hi folks, Does anyone happen to have the Ogive to Tip measurements of any of the following bullets? Hornady Interlock 175gr SP Sierra 175gr SBT Nosler Partition 175gr - My new rifle has a fairly tight chamber and shoots "pointy bullets" wonderfully well but won't chamber my current 165gr RNSP bullets that I like for short range hunting. Any help before I order a box of 50/100 would be much appreciated. Scrummy
  16. You could try Sierra's 160gr TMK perhaps? That's what I use in the 7x64 and with my limited experience of LR found it good. Scrummy
  17. Andrew, there is a very long and convoluted answer to that question. The short answer is: I drank the cool aid... Scrummy
  18. Hi folks, I think I'm starting to understand why people like HPBT bullets for target shooting. Load is for "longer range" plinking with my CZ527 1:9" barrel Ramshot TAC Hornady ELD - M 73 gr (So at the edge of the twist rate limit) Left hand round is loaded to about 20 thou off lands to start load development Right had is what will run through my magazine... Maybe it's time to try a 69gr HPBT if this doesn't work... Also, can you still get a single loading "sled" for the CZ527? Scrummy
  19. This is a really interesting thread folks. I'm hoping to do some reloading for longer range target shooting so this is fascinating. I did the BASC reloading course back end of last year and very interestingly the recommendation was to find powder and bullet that suited your application and tune to length to find accuracy. Scrummy
  20. Hi Andrew, I'm mainly looking at ranges from 200yds out to maybe 600 and a little beyond. Sadly Varget in no verboten here in the UK :( How are you keeping? Scrummy
