Yea had a look at them, but like you say stocks are low in the ground

I know that MDT are working on it, so it's just a case of being patient. The factory stock is really well designed though which helps. I'd like to get a Laminate one, bed it, fill it with lead, attach an ARCA Rail and have an adjustable cheek piece to be honest.

  2. I love a tricked up 22lr for practicing with!

My Lithgow LA101 - Stock filled with lead shot and resin to increase weight, full length ARCA rail on fore end.

30 MOA Brittania rail, Sig Tango4 6-24, Dev-L Mil scope.

    MDT Cyke Pod.

It's a super accurate rifle and with the canted rail dialling out to 300+ yards is a doddle, just waiting on MDT to make up a chassis for it and it'll be golden!

I’m not sure it’s possible on the chassis I have.  Nowhere to fix it on the underside, just a 3 inch pic rail up front, which thinking about it, is probably too far forward from the point of balance.

A universal ARCA rail from MDT would be my choice that way you could utilise some of the existing threaded holes in the Bolthorn chassis.

    I've been looking at these.

SIG Kilo 3000 BDX 10x42 Laser Rangefinding Ballistic Binoculars

They seem to be getting fantastic reviews in the USA. With the added benefit of having the ballistic calculator on board.

I’ve been using mine since May, they’ve been superb at everything be it stalking, varminting, glassing or shooting PRL. As binos they’re up there and as a range finder I’ve not found anything to touch them, plus the added benefit of ballistics capabilities is very useful.

Cheers folks. Quick update after a bit more load development. Achieved a 0.3moa 100 yard group with the 77g TMK’s now using the max load of RS52 and 8 thou off.

Seems to be consistent so far but didn’t take my chrono so not sure of speed but probably around 2700. Just need to try out a bit further now. Got a slot on stickledown next week for my 6.5 CM - might take the 223 along and go for the 1000 yards.

    RS52 works great under 77gr TMK's

  6. I’m having a 223ai built for similar duties along with a bit of informal High volume plinking thrown in for good measure. Quite fancied a 22 Creedmoor after using my buddies in the states which is a complete laser beam, I just wanted something less overbore.

    “Charlts”

There is no agenda to push and all is factual

Simply one persons view point is equal to another’s

I mentioned the 6.5/55 improved as it is and has been used by a named “top” shot in on line video in which  they say this is the cartridge they are using I have no idea when the video were made - they are on line and do not look old

    Linked reference to the video and information one can navigate to the article in question here ;

    https://ultimatereloader.com/2018/02/18/expanded-10-shot-load-development-for-6-5-creedmoor/

I believe you made reference to the “best shots” moving to 6mm - on that point another contributor to the discussion said this is possibly down to the visible flashing target markers used at some comps making hits with smaller calibre easier to spot

My own view is if all things are equal the calibre of the user is what matters rather than a particular cartridge - but the physics of 6mm vs 6.5 will allow the larger calibre to provide better indication of hit

It’s a heap of fun experimenting with different cartridges to see what suits YOURSELF  best though and excellent discussion

I have my 6.5/47 which is used in competition and for killing deer (very effectively)

My other deer rifle is about to be decommissioned as it’s seen 15- 18yrs of service as 6.5/284,  on its fourth barrel in that guise and I am changing it for another make and cartridge to again do double duty as deer killer and Comp gun (just like the 6.5/47) - the only thing I want is an effective, accurate tool which works for the purpose I want it to do.

    😃

I agree it's great fun seeing how things are moving along, having been on the firing line across the pond it's rare seeing anyone winning and not shooting a sedate 6. Already this year a lot of the PRL top ten are building 6mm's and the trend across Precision Rifle competitions is for smaller 6's, here's a link to a more recent survey - https://precisionrifleblog.com/2018/12/14/rifle-caliber/ This seasons would likely show a greater movement. Flashers will definitely help things in the UK, as will increasing the standard of spotting hits for score - It's always going to be difficult with some of the awful spotting scope setups that have used this year. The NRL and PRS tend to use the flashers just for long range targets.

Personally I just want to get out and shoot, there's far too much talking gets done when the weather is bad and not enough folk go shooting. Also curious why you'd move away from the easy to shoot 6.5x47, which you've found very effective. The first two rounds of the PRL before I started stoking my Creedmoor up I was running around 2600fps with 140's which is around what I'd expect from the smaller case, I found it very nice to shoot and it certainly took some scalps up at Gardners at round 2.

He competes with 6mm Creed now or at least did last season.  From memory using 105’s .Having seen him shoot he could beat me with a .22lr .....

I think the Swedemore stuff was a while ago. I did chat with him about 6.5’s and he had been playing with .260 seated long to get the boat tail above the shoulder to get capacity and remove any concern on donuts.

    Sound familiar ?

    Tony

I was sure it was a 6mm Creedmoor in March and definitely a 6mm Creedmoor for the Guardian and his training weekend. 115gr RDF’s going around 2950fps from memory.

@Ronin are you trying to push a specific agenda to suit or keep things factual?

Just to slightly move askew of topic I notice a chap called Mr  Saterlee (who is a “top” US PRS shooter - some may have heard of him ) uses 6.5 Swedmoor (6.5/55 improved)

His goal for 140 class bullets is 3000 fps

That hasn’t done any disservice to him I believe and not a 6mm,,,,

Really? For precision rifle? How long ago was that?

Marginal increase in recoil over the “trendy” cartridge using similar bullet weight

”Best shooters using smaller calibre”  - that may be in the states where bullet  splash on misses can be seen (drier dustier conditions) but I don’t think the 6mm cartridges offer any advantage unless you push the projectile at very fast velocities to maximise BC

The trade off being barrel wear and throat erosion of course which will be increased with rapid courses of fire

6mm not much use in factory class either unless you use a 243

Many of the Skandinavian shooters are using straight 6.5/55 Skan to good advantage with 123, 130, 140 class bullets, 6.5/55 improvers is popular too

No recoil disadvantage from what I’ve seen from their “top shooters”

Lets not forget either that at the birth of steel plate shooting of this type the 260, 260 AI and 6.5/47 were class leaders used to great effect by the likes of George Gardner, Terry Cross and Zac Smith

Exiting times indeed and I concur with Dave in the direction we’re both pursuing though using different platforms to do so

Health permitting I hope to attend as many comps as possible next year if not I’ll be looking for a suitable candidate to use my rifle and mix it with “the best” 🙈

Plenty of 6 Creedmoor factory options available that will out perform a 243 and more components become available by the month. When 6.5 barrels are being swapped at 2-2200 rounds barrel life isn't really a consideration

The bulk of the top Americans aren't wringing the the necks of cartridges for MV, rather leaning towards lower MV and pressure for increased consistency and function in all the conditions encountered. I'm sure they wouldn't do this without an advantage. The Irish guys showed how well the 6mm's can perform in the UK by doing rather well, the general consensus being avoid the issue of spotting splash by hitting first time!

Next year is going to be a great one to watch from an equipment perspective, with so many different variations. I can't wait for it!

Looks real nice , torn between exactly same stock or MDT oryx keep us posted how you find it with the drone on top, as I plan similar set up when I have cash together for the stock , do the standard tikka magazine and bottom metal drop straight in ?

    regards lee

They'll drop right into the Bifrost, with the Oryx you'd run AICS pattern mags.
