  1. Thanks Mark, I'll get a copy of both. It seems strange to me (having never fired or even held either) that so many countries adopted the FAL when the AR10 looks to have been a better platform. But my wonderment comes from ex forces friends' experience with the L1A1 and my own experience with modern .308 AR10/SR25 like rifles which now seem to be scaled up AR15s rather than derivatives of the AR10 itself. Hence wanting more info.
  2. Hi, After watching this video from Gun Jesus I've become interested in learning more about AR10s. Can anyone recommend a good book on AR10s? I'm looking for more of its development story, military trials and adoption or lack of adoption rather than just a technical manual.
  3. I did know that because I fired a GAU19A in America a while back and got a lecture about it beforehand. On another note, your rifles are stunning.
  4. I always wear defenders with moderators too. The reason I bother moderating my rifles apart from looking like I'm the coolest fat old bloke in the SAS is because my club's neighbors can't hear the shots and thus don't get a pitchfork toting Mumsnet army to shut us down.
  5. Make him shoot a sub inch 100m group or I'm not buying anything off him
  6. How much is the tumbler media retrieval device?
  7. Remove the space from the end, after the last "/"and it works.
  8. But I don't want a FFP scope nor do most of the people I shoot with. What I want is a clear sight picture in any light and nice big turrets with clearly defined clicks. I think Swarovski have understood my needs perfectly.
  9. The main issue I have with people saying this scope isn't worth it comes from recent personal interaction. Typically, people have seen the scope on my rifle and their opening remark is along the lines of, "They saw you coming" or, "You got ripped off". They then go on to say they paid a fraction of that for a scope that's just as good. When I ask them how long they tried the x5 for, they either looked through it in a shop or show once or have never even touched one. If the scope genuinely doesn't do something that somebody needs it to or they don't need/want a scope that can do all that this one can then that's fine. I just hate that people immediately declare it to cost more than it's worth or only be as good as whatever cheaper scope they bought, without actually testing it. I'm not saying that applies to anyone here but it's certainly the case for most of the people I've met in real life who've declared it to be no better than their mid range Vortex or whatever. I personally never thought I'd buy my original Z6i as the £200 Hawke I had seemed OK for what I did. Then I actually tried one that a friend had spare (yeah I know, spare Swarovski) and I immediately saw the benefit of crystal clear glass with no aberrations and a reticle so fine it didn't obscure the centre dot at any distance. After I bought my own, I thought I'd never need to upgrade but after actually trying the x5 on a rifle pointed at a target not just at a shop wall, I could see that trading in the z6 would be worthwhile for the increased clarity and contrast. I've tried scopes from all the big players and in my opinion and that of my eyes, not one of them beats Swarovski glass. The only one to come close is the Vortex Razor HD Gen II and that too has a price north of £2000. Stunning glass costs money, just ask any photographer.
  10. Care to elaborate on that with facts and options?
  11. I traded my 5-30x50 z6i for an x5 5-25x56 and have not regretted it. A definite upgrade.
  12. Using http://www.picresize.com on step 4 of the resizing options fill in 900 in the maximum file size box.
  13. You can reduce images easily online if you don't have any photo editing software. Try http://www.picresize.com
  14. It's up to you but I'm trading my Z6i for an X5 as soon as they are in stock. If you want it for hunting then the Z6 is still stunning but for targets, the X5 is a much more capable animal.
  15. I think we've handled very different x5s. The turrets on the one I played with were very robust with the most definitive clicks I've ever experienced. Having lived with a Z6i for 18 months I saw an immediate improvement in the x5 in both contrast and clarity.
  16. I touched the only 5-25 that was in the country at the time at a competition hosted by a club near me (Reepham) in August. I now have one on order, Should be here soon once the American orders get filled. It is truly stunning, a huge improvement in clarity over my Z6i and I thought that would be impossible.
  17. People talk down shotgun blanks but I've found if you angle the trap towards a wall or paved ground then they are 100% effective.
  18. 25.2 grains of Hodgdon Vapour behind a 26" air slug.
  19. The rules changed last year to get rid of the difference between what you can hold and what you can buy in one go. You can now refill your entire allocation in one go.
  20. You may want to be careful with the Tenex one as Eley have patented that design and are very protective of it.
  21. If you're in Lincolnshire then North Cotes Butts http://www.facebook.com/northcotes.butts or Lincolnshire Shooting Centre http://www.facebook.com/shootingcentrelincs
  22. Subsonic .22LR grouping under an inch at 100 yards? With what rifle? My Feinwerkbau 2700 would struggle with that using Tenex.
  23. Shame about the reticle choice. I'd have bought instantly if they'd listened to my suggestion of their BR reticle but with added windage holdover marks.
