Comments please on Benchrest Rifle / F-Class Scope Shortlist

Recommended Posts

I’m looking to start Benchrest 600 Yds and F-class 300/500/600 Yds when my FAC comes through.
Possibly with the same rifle (will be chatting with the Diggle Guys about the practicalities of this).

Ideally the scope I chose should also be usable for Benchrest 1000 and F-Class 800/900/1000 should the need arise in the future.

Based on what I’ve read, this is a short-list of what could be likely contenders.

                                                                                    Second-hand Price Guestimate

NF                                8-32 x 56                                 £750

NF                                12-42 x 56                               £750

Sightron                      8-32 x 56                                 £500

Sightron                      10-50 x 60                               £750

Vortex Golden Eagle  15-60 x 52                               £1000+

Obviously I won’t be buying any until I’ve had a chat to see what guys actually use, to see what they are like to look through and which recticle I like.

Bonus question: if you could choose Second-hand a:

Savage F/Tr + more expensive scope

Or

Custom and lesser priced scope (e.g. Sightron 8-32 x 56),

Which would you choose?

I have three Sightrons, two 8-32*56 one with target dot reticle and one MOA2, and one 10-50*60 target dot.

Personally the 8-32 is probably as much scope as you need the x50 gets a little milky after x35 mag also the 10-50 only has 50 moa of elevation where the 8-32 has 75.

If you are looking at a 17lb rifle for BR then the Nightforce are a bit on the heavy side - go Sightron but stick with the 8-32 - eye relief is a bit more critical on the 10-50. Not an issue for F Class but when shooting a rapid string at BR you don't want to be struggling with eye-relief.

Personally, I went with a Delta Stryker HD 5-50x56 SFP with the DLS3 ret. It's for 1/8 MOA clicks and for my eyes its superb clarity.

You see them on here for sale around £1000-£1150 depending on the version (e.g. locking vs non-locking turrets).
