Paul Cat
Can someone explain why the impact point changes when a moderator is removed? On my .17 hmr I noticed a 6" higher shot fall at 100 yards, I assume it's down to the Fizzicks of gases swirling in the moderator as the round passes through but I could (most likely) be talking through my hat. Popsbengo
barrel harmonics, the vibration of the barrel is changed by the large lump of metal screwed on the end (or not). A few thou of difference at the muzzle is a few inches at distance The bullet is ahead of the gasses travelling at supersonic speed so no interference from them. No i deer
My rifles usually have a point of impact change about 1.5 inches at 100yds going from a muzzle brake to a mod and vice versa
palo
On my 308 my point of impact is usually about 2 inches lower with the mod on. I did work up a load with berger 155.5 bullets that had the same point of impact with the mod on and off. I still can't figure that one out.
