Lee enfield No3, New deactivate Legislation

Recommended Posts

Evening lads,

In a nutshell i have been offered a corker of a deactivated 1917 No3  SMLE lee enfield from a mate, who has to downsize, i am snatching his hand off to add it to my man cave !

The only issue i have.. is that he cant find the deactivated certificate he got on purchase back in 2013 ish (deactivated by the Birmingham proof house/stamped with their mark etc).

I know legislation changed in 2019, and deacs now have to be registered with the home office.. but my questions are..

- does anyone have any experience with recent transfers of a deac ? And what was the process ? (I understand there is a form i need to send off but am struggling to find online)

- If i am registering the deac rifle to myself with the home office, do i still need a deac certificate ? And if so, what is the best way to go about getting a replacement ?

any advice would be appreciated lads, absolute corker of a display piece with original bayonet and sling etc !

He can't sell/dispose or give to you unless it is deactivated to the new EU standards. His options are - Do the work to upgrade it and get a new certificate or give it to an RFD to do.

If he gives/sells it to you as it is then you both break the law

There's loads of stuff on-line.  The Government website is a good start https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/circular-0102019-firearms-regulations-2019-and-the-firearms-amendment-no2-rules-2019/0102019-firearms-regulations-2019-and-the-firearms-amendment-no2-rules-2019

I'd recommend contacting a deactivation specialist for advice and a possible modification to comply with all necessary paperwork

A Mk V even. The nomenclature of British small arms was changed and updated on 31st May 1926, List of change announcements ss A1635 -A1690. Whilst the Mk III and Mk III* we're redesignated Rifle No. 1 Mk III and Rifle No. 1 Mk III* the Mk V was not so redesignated, probably because it was only a trials weapon and by that time had been superseded.

I would get out more often but ...
