swampy
this is how it started after i removed the lump on the back bridge. this is the santa barbara bolt body with the FN mauser guts in it freshly cut crown home made bolt truing tool truing the bolt trued bolt, i lapped the lugs aswell. parker hale barrel fitted, you can see the monkey scars on the barrel and also the rear hole on the rear bridge for the scope is not straight. that was a big learning point. the bolt, sadly the lovely standy up safety was no good under the scope. the military 2 stage trigger was polished and a lighter spring used. a trip to the proof house followed. done, following the donation of a stock from davek on centrefire. This is the first project like this that i have ever done. I have learned lots of things and i would not make the same mistakes again. however i will do more swampy

swampy
Range report, went to a local quarry today to check out the new rifle. It was freezing but still and not raining or snowing. I used my truck bonnet as a bench and used the below load. .30-06 sprg 165gr sierra game kings. 60 gr imr 4350 imi brass full lengthed and trimmed cci large rifle primers. overall length un known but is a quarter of a turn of my seating die off the rifling. this is not a load worked up for this rifle. The rifle didn't function flawlessly..... the ejector didn't work very well to start with however after a few shots it worked nicely. feed was fine and smooth from the magazine. trigger was passable. two stages with a longer than i would like first stage but a fairly crisp release, no horrid creep. Here are the results. the two shots at the bottom ara a couple of different left overs i needed to get used. the squares on the sheet are 1 inch. I think that i have achieved my aim of the exercise. swampy
shootingbags
Hi Swampy, A lovely job and good results too. I think these gunsmiths with the nice lathes and milling machines are ripping us off - all you need is an engineers vice and drill
