Olympic Archery - Men's Team Event

Did anyone else watch the Olympic men's team archery last night?

The Korean gold with three straight sets was spectacular. They dropped only 3 points in the entire match.

The US team was incredibly close too.

The Aussie team picked up the bronze medal and it's the first time they've won an Olympic archery medal.

What happened to the GB team? I can't find out anything about them.

Yes,impressive consistent shooting by the Koreans.

I've seen poorer groups with some rifles..... :-)

Archery does seem to work visually on TV,and moves along at a fair pace;giving perhaps even more "impact" than say,the 10m air rifle electronic scoring, well enough done though that was.

Generally, target shooting is not easy to display engagingly, especially to a non specialist audience.

They managed it at Bisley for the Commonwealth Games - there was a facsimile of the target-face behind each shooter and a white patch was applied to each fall of shot. You could see the crowd start to gather behind the high-scoring targets. Great atmosphere and would have made equally good TV.

The Archery format was very good however as it allowed team against team - shot for shot - rather than the teams shooting all shots then score cards handed in, as would happen in a shooting comp.

Now that's a big come down for British archery. When I was an archer (in the mid 90s) I had the good fortune of having some coaching from the then legendary Steve Hallard who competed twice in two consecutive Olymics. We used to do well back then.

Enjoyed the women Archery last night.

One thing stunned me though, and i,m sure other archers would have spotted it. There was some pretty poor technique showing, and one of the women actually showed target panic. Not something you expect to see at the olympics !

The mens fencing was brilliant too.
