trucraft
Wondering if I should uniform all my flash holes? The problem I have is when resizing my lapua brass (once fired 6x47L) with FL Forester the decapping pin 4 out of 5 cases keeps pulling out and getting stuck in the flash hole. When removing it from the brass it is much tighter with some than others. I guess my pin could be too big. Is that possible as it is the original? How big should the pin be and how wide are 6.5x47L flash holes? Any advice?
Swarovski1
Sounds like it,6,5x47 has a smaller flash hole to go with the small primer, so needs a smaller pilot for flash hole, best not do anymore.
BlueBoy69
Is the pin 0.060" or 0.080"? Cases with the smaller flash hole (6.5x47L, 22 PPC, 6 mm PPC, etc.) require a 0.060" decapping pin.
trucraft
I will measure the pin later. Seems strange that a 6x47 lapua die have the wrong size pin.
jcampbellsmith
I read a thread recently somewhere on this problem. Between pin dimension tolerances and flash hole tolerances, problems do arise. Put the decapping pin in a drill and take it down in size a couple of thou? Keep applying emery paper or similar until the pin passes through all the flash holes. Find a tight flash hole and use it as a gauge. trucraft
Good idea JCS. It is possible that I got the pin muddled with a pin from another die set but I can't see how a large primer pin would fit in the 6x47L die if it's wider. Brillo
Spud (on here) sells the correct size pins. Give him a call and he'll sort it for you.

trucraft
Problem solved. I found the correct decapping pin in the spent primer tray. I had been using the wrong size pin. Doesn't seem to have opened the flash holes up much if at all.
