The 3-12x50 MKII (a miltary PM2 with 34mm tube) was issued to replace the 6x42 on the L96. It was in service until the L96 went and was on the 338 L115A1s we bought before the L115A3 came into service I've completely forgotten the designation, but they were marked 'Lxxx' on the ocular housing ...I want to say L17 ...but that's wrong. Lsomething :)

The 3-12s are now being used on the 'Sniper Support Weapon' - a lightly modified version of the L129A1 Sharpshooter rifle, for use by the spotter pair alongside the L115A3s.

That system has been withdrawn and the SSW no longer exists, all rifles were converted back to Sharpshooter rifles with 6x ACOG

Pic shows L17A1 below a PMii 3-12x50. Distance from tip of objective bell to start of central turrets is the same on both. Distance from other side of central turrets to start of occular bell is slightly longer on the PMii than the L17A1. The occular tube on the L17A1 is much longer than the PMii making the total length of the L17A1 noticeably longer. It may be that the PMii 3-12x50 changed in dimension over time and an early example would be the same length as the L17A1 but this example is clearly shorter.
