Cutting a barrel

Hi guys,

Just wondering if a button rifled 32" .308 barrel was used for a couple thousand shots and then was cut back to 30" and re-chambered what are the likely effects on 1. accuracy and 2. barrel life ??

thanks

people do do it but with mixed results

take your barrel to a reputable riflesmith (there are several on this forum) and let them have a look down it with a borescope for a verdict

Just done this with my 6.5x47, took two inches off the barrel after its had circa 2.5k rounds through the LW barrel.

Loaded ten rounds of my original load today (39g Varget, CCI BR primer, 123 Scenar)

Coudnt believe my eyes when I saw that the first five shot group measured .250", velocity 2980 fps......

Front of action Gary.

So offically the barrel is 24" total length.

Two inches removed from total length, also recrowned and removed a ferom the muzzle end, extended the M18x1 mm thread to bring it back to length.

Well pleased with the alterations.

Rifle ready for CZ comp now, maybe some stalking too...
