  1. As it was supposed to rain today I took my only non-wood stocked rifle to Warminster.the 308 STR and it was wonderful…. Just had it in my head I needed a creedmoor for 1000yards … maybe not 😂 It’ll cost me dearly to change and after fifty rounds this morning where I was getting more bulls than not I’m questioning the sense in change 😳 new STR is a very fetching red 😍
  2. I just don’t use it and would like more room in my cabinet. What authority are you under? What is a realistic time frame? A&S aren’t hugely fast, but I understand some are worse. I’ve heard some horror stories from D & C 🤣
  3. Assuming I can find a buyer for my .308 Sabatti STR I'm going to buy a Sabatti STR chambered in 6.5mm Creedmoor. I have got on very well with ELD-Ms with the .300WM and .308 so am likely to use the same in the 6.5CM, but given that many powders are getting hard to get. I bought a couple of kilos of N150 for my .308. Not sure if that's good? The load data vit offer seems to cover a whole range of their powders and doesn't say which is best. I have always favoured RS powders but they don't seem to specify which is most suitable for 6.5CM. If it's 52 then I buggered cos noone has any!
  4. Talk to anyone with a Sabatti and they will tell you what a great gun they are. Super accurate and with the MRR Multi Radial Rifling the barrels they out last any traditionally barrelled rifle. I am only selling this Sabatti to buy another in a different calibre! With some load development in a 100yard tunnel I have achieved repeatable sub 1/4 MOA groups with Hornady 178gr ELDM bullets and RS52 powder. The gun is five years old and the target group shown was shot in Monmouth tunnel November last year. I have shot exactly 100 rounds since then. I don't keep a record of shots fired but I am on my first lot of once fired cases so I very much doubt I have exceeded 1000 rounds, which for an MRR barrel is nothing.I have had the gun from new and I was meticulous with the break in following the instructions to the letter and have always kept the gun clean. The scope is a Bushnell Elite Tactical 3.5 - 21 x 50mm To keep the scope as low as possible, the top picatinny rail over the barrel was removed and I still have it together with the 'spare' pistol grip rubbers. The gun also comes with a Sabatti hard plastic caseThe rifle originally shipped with a short picatinny rail at the back of the stock for a bag runner, but I found that this was less than perfect so I made a custom aluminium bag runner that screws straight on which was much better. I note that the newer STRs have a similar bag runner from the the factory. Did they copy me? I did not find the bare metal of the cheek piece comfortable so added some self-adhesive foam rubber to it that made it nicer to shoot. £1500 onoBecause I am changing calibre I could also offer ammo, dies, cases, bullets etc at an agreed cost I have 250 rounds with Lapua Scenar 167bullets and RS52 powder and some more with Hornady ELD-M bullets. This is a nice accurate setup with plenty of reloading data. For a newbie to the sport I even have a Lee turret press. The bipod is not included in the sale
  5. Old school target rifle offering pinpoint accuracy. Old it may be, but will make many more modern 22s look silly. I wish I could put the trigger on one of my long range centre fire rifles - it's awesome. Will take a scope for super accuracy. I'm looking for £300
  6. I might give HPS a call, but then I'd lose the MRR. I don't think one gets much change from a bag of sand for a quality rebarrel so it might be easier to sell my rifle and get a new one. I really like the colour of new STR Sport in red - as they say in Bristol "it looks gurt lush!" 🤣
  7. It's not that arduous, but takes time and with the cost of ammo now. I guess I'm still smarting from the time I stuck three through the same ragged hole and they made me go and shoot some more at £1++ a round. I now deliberately shoot off at Bisley HME testing. Never been a problem on gallery ranges at 200yards set for 600.
  8. Because there are no sharp edges they claim that it doesn’t wear in the same manner. It’s certainly easier to clean as there’s no corners for crap to get stuck in. When I bought my first Sabatti the guy said that some bloke had won some major title using a gun that had a very high shot count, which would usually have been re-barrelled many times over. I think it is fairly accepted that they are far more accurate than many other guns in their price bracket.
  9. When I first got my license my first center fire rifle was the ubiquitous .308. I soon realised that whilst if could shoot 1000yards it was pretty much on the limit, so I bought a Sabatti .300 Win Mag which is great, but not so cheap to feed! I also have a lovely .223 CZ which if fed with its favourite munchies is stonkingly accurate. I would really like a .338 lapua for serious long range, but to be honest it is out of my pay grade. When I renewed I asked for 6.5 Creedmoor and it has been burning a hole in my license since. I am seriously thinking about selling the .308 in favour of Creedmoor, because it will easily manage 1000yards and has the advantage of not requiring HME testing, which can be an advantage, particularly at Bisley. My .308 is a Sabatti STR and whilst I prefer the .300Win Mag which is the heavier barrelled model, let into a FormRifle stock, I really can't think about the cost of a custom inlet again! I was thinking about the new STR FC with 28mm x 28" barrel in a very fetching red. My ultimate preference would always be a laminated stock but I like Sabattis because, like CZs they shoot better than their cost would suggest and the MRR rifling means the barrels last much longer than traditional rifled barrels. ANy thoughts?
  10. It is a shame. Part of me hoped that one day it would go back to what it was. Such a shame that two people can destroy so comprehensively a great club of many years good standing. Never mind, most of the members I know in ODRC have migrated to the clubs I am now in so happiness returns
  11. Thanks for the info lads. I have just put my plastic into meltdown for the AIM bag and mat. Talked to the owner on the phone who was most helpful and friendly. ALso a biker which helps I have got a trolley I bought for the job, but found that loading and unloading is so tiresome and time consuming that unless I have need for many rifles it is unlikely to get many more outings. I am hoping the cost-a-lot new bag will enable me to put most of what I need in the bag and not bother with the large range box. Time will tell!
  12. Last time I shot at IR2 I seemed to be the only one who had to make two journeys from my car. My body is not in good shape partly as a result of falling of motorcycles taking hedonism to its logical conclusion. Without a Time Machine I can’t put that right so need to find a better set of kit. My mat alone takes up a huge amount of space, being one of those thick vinyl covered jobs that folds into four - comfy but I’ll chop it out for a roll up I guess. I carry my rifle in a heavy plastic case that came with my Sabatti rifles and offers superb protection, but are cumbersome. My range box is a large Plano box that everything goes in easily, but again is ungainly. This kit is perfect for Bisley where I can pull my truck up behind the firing point, but is a pain, literally, to walk the seemingly increasing distances at MOD ranges. I notice that AIM mats and bags seem popular, but they’re not cheap; are they worth the investment? I rearly I could do with strapping as much to my back as possible? Any thought would be appreciated
  13. I booked one lane on Century last weekend for an hour and it cost me £21, I think. I got through 97 rounds so the cost of the range was not the problem 😳 I normally use Stickledown, but SWMBO was with me and hates guns with a passion, so time was very limited, precluding the extra time for HME testing. Is Stickledown more expensive? - I thought that the price seemed to be about what I last paid for 1000yards per lane. 🧐
  14. Have agreed to swap the Noslers for TMKs with Deadcentre whose gun likes Noslers but not TMKs …. These guns are sooo fussy!
  15. These bullets came highly recommended, but sadly my CZ doesn't like 'em - it seems to like 69gr TMKs which are about as readily available as rocking horse that which promotes growth and vigour! Plenty of folk on here said their guns shoot well with Noslers, just not mine! I bought five hundred and wasted 91 trying to develop a load for them so I have 409off left for which I would like £150 sent by DPD (obviously not highlands and islands etc!)
  16. 200off .308 Lapua Scenar L 175gr I would use these but by the time I have used 100 developing a load I may as well try and get bullets I already have loads developed for. £100 posted
  17. All my load development has been centred around Swiss powders, which is a bit of a bummer to say the least as availability seems to be virtually zero currently. I have just messages RS through their web site, but given the RFDs don’t seem to have any idea when the RS drought might end I am not hopeful. I have spent a fortune on load development this year around bullets as the ones I have got used to disappear and one has to start again with another make that …. Disappears! times are seriously tough now and if RS is off the market for the foreseeable future then I need to find an alternative that will have a reliable supply. Vit is an obvious alternative, but seems expensive ? Though what isn’t? Lovex seems cheaper and I have started using D073.5 in my Lee Enfield, but that is hardly accurate with open sights 🤣 I currently use RS40 in my .223, RS52 in the .308 and RS70 in the .300WM. When possible I use Sierra TMKs, Hornady ELD-Ms and 167grn Lapua Scenas in the .308, though these have dried up lately. Any thoughts on alternatives?
  18. I am probably opening the proverbial can of worms ….. but goes ….. I have been given the absolute advice from two knowledgeable and experienced shooters about case prep. One says he cleans his cases in side and out with a wet tumbler and assures me that the cleaner the better. The other, who used to do the same, now says he doesn’t clean his cases as all the carbon is good inside, but anneals every time. He also coats his bullets in some fancy that which promotes growth and vigour (not moly, which he used to use). Personally, I clean my cases outside with a dry vibrio-tumbler thing with walnut shells, purely because I hate dirty brass. I anneal as an when I can’t remember when I last annealed. Not very scientific 🙄 To be fair I would and every time if it wasn’t such a ball ache. I am considering making a new machine that is more reliable and easier to use. I currently have the turntable type, but it often gets out of synch, and even when it is ‘in synch’ the bullets stop turning and get over cooked one side and the other side left raw 🤬 When I change calibre it takes for ever to try and get the next disc to get back in synch.
  19. This is such a familiar tale with so many clubs, not just shooting organisations. I can clearly not comment on this particular club as I nothing about anyone in it. Committees seem to contain either chaps reluctantly feeling that as a member of said club enjoying the advantages for some while, that they should contribute and then there are the egotists, who love the opportunity to have some level of control over lesser mortals. The latter are political animals and often ruin the club for all. Often it only takes one or two such arseholes with a small following to completely ruin an otherwise great organisation. The long term effect is that such inadequate individuals, having destroyed the club, have no one to lord it over. It is of course never their fault! ODRC was a typical example; a club completely destroyed by, I’m told, two individuals. I have personal experience of one extraordinarily disingenuous bully there, who was not only rude and arrogant to club members, but I’m told, tried his attitude on Landmarc and the MOD which was not a great idea. I’m now a member of three other clubs, all of which are well run by friendly fellow enthusiasts, sans ego 😃 Happy Daze😃 All I want now is for bullets powder etc to become affordable and all in the garden will be lovely 😊
  20. After the drowning at Warminster, I'm getting quite sensitive about weather 🤣 I don't think the mega rain did my Form Rifle stock any good ☹️
