I tried at 1400 yards at Bunkies with 195grn TMKs which are great at 1000, but went subsonic at 1250ish and were not really grouping at all. I have some loads with 205grn ELD-Ms which stay super until about 1400. I will have to try them one day and see if I can do the elusive mile. Until then it's just a dream :)

    Ā

    Awesome šŸ™‚Ā

my 208 were transonic at about 1275, I totally get the applied ballistics custom curves now, Kev trued it at 1250 and it was bang on from there on out.Ā
because I am stubborn I will true strelok with some transonic BC data to match my dope but the kestrel was so easy.Ā

My dream as well, but I doubt I'll be able to do it with my factory .300 WinMag, but I'd love to try !

I donā€™t see why not, depending on the rifle.Ā
mine is an off the shelf howa 1500 24ā€ 300PRC just put it in an MDT chassis instead of the ORYX to match my other rifles.Ā
Ā I was well subsonic by the time it got to the mile as I donā€™t run it very hot.Ā

  3. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

    Ā

So this is a goal Iā€™ve had since I started shooting fullbore 9 years ago. I only started to really think about it just before Covid hit and I ended up waiting 14months for the rifle.

Itā€™s full spec is below, I actually ordered a 26ā€ 300winmag but when a 24ā€ 300PRC showed up in the country I snapped it up after a quick variation.

    Ā

    Full spec is:

Howa 1500 24ā€ 300PRC barrel action, off the shelf.

    MDT ESS chassis

Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x (which Iā€™ve had for a long time)

    20MOA rail

Burris XTR tactical rings with another 20MOA of inserts.

    Wildcat predator moderator

208eld-m over Reloader26 in Lapua brass with Remington 9 1/2 primers.

    Ā

Shot at east cornwall sporting which is an amazing venue, two huge bunkers 50 yards between them and a valley of farm land which you drive back up (in 4x4s) to get longer and longer ranges. Iā€™ve shot there a number of times before but only ever back to 1250.

    Ā

Kev who runs the venue knows his stuff and was a huge help with his wind calls.

Also as I was transonic around 1275, i was very thankful we had put my rifle in his kestrel as strelok was only trued up to 1250 and it was way out (even with multi BC) beyond that.

    Ā

I didnā€™t go to do the mile, itā€™s always a hope but I went for a private day to learn and just ring some steel, I even had the .22 in the car just in case I was having an off day and we could have shot that to 600Ā

    Ā

The weather was swinging from sunshine to pouring rain a fog, very thankful for the new awning addition to the trailer hut!

    Ā

We had a quick check at 100 and I wanted to zero my 6.5 which now has a new scope on it after giving the athlon up to the 300.

We then went back in steps and shot roughly. 600, 800, 1100 and 1250 to get some dope. I wasnā€™t that hopeful at this point, I was hitting MOA and the odd 1/2 MOA but not as consistently as I hoped. Ammo was showing an 18es on the chrono over 6 rounds so we didnā€™t think it was that.

    Ā

A quick warm pastie in the trailer / hut and we went back to 1350 where as we were packing up Kev notice my scope cap appeared to be touching the chassis. Now Iā€™d run a piece of paper through it to ensure it wasnā€™t, but after removing it when we went back to 1500 the groups spoke for themselves and either something else happened weather wise or it really might have been that.

    Ā

I was happy enough to be hitting the big plate at that distance and pulled quite a nice group and I expected us to finish up the day there. Then the magic words ā€œshall we go back to the mileā€

    Ā

With 30 rounds from 150 left, I thought why not!

    Ā

Shooting at the big plate (25x37ā€) in the bottom bunker was good enough for me, making hits on steel at 1713 yards is a feeling that I just canā€™t describe, just amazing.

    Ā

With 17 rounds left, we moved up to the magic mile, with 22.3mil of elevation and 4.5 mil of wind and 5 rounds and I was so close but we needed to take a break to let the rifle cool a bit.

    Ā

It took 5 more rounds to hit the plate after that, eventually getting on with perfect elevation and on Kevā€™s wind call, holding 1 mil off the left side. Seeing that little dot appear just under the bull was just something else.

    Ā

Kevā€™s not daft, heā€™s got plenty more patches for the 1/2 MOA, MOA in three and cold bore so I will be back again soon no doubt!!

    Ā

Huge thanks to the Country Sports Shop who I buy 95% of my kit from but also who I have learned a huge amount from

    Ā

And of course to Kev for all the tuition and running such a brilliant venue and last but certainly not least, to Vicky who has to sit on top of a hill all day as a spotter!

    Ā

  4. So the 6cm wasnā€™t enough reduction in recoil or powder use compared to the 6.5 I already have. Thatā€™s great at sending 147s to 1250 just lovely.Ā
    Ā

Not really chasing the golden goose just fancy something in 6mm and seeing as most (outside the 6cm) will be a custom order, I may as well get the best.Ā
    Ā

My understanding Ā is the GT is a fair bit less of a barrel burner than some of the others but as I said and you reiterated, brass might be a pain.

    Ā

but this is why I am here, to get peoples thoughts šŸ‘

  5. Iā€™ve edited my faux pas šŸ¤£

    Ā

I am definitely not in the high skill level, but if Iā€™m going to get something built then I might as well get make the most of it and get the right thing.Ā
    Ā

6mm creed was not it, poor decision due to lack of due diligence, hence why I am hereĀ

dasher is second on the list, seems like GT just pips it in most respects especially regarding feeding reliability, if the yank forums are to be believed.Ā

  6. Fancy something new for steels and also possibly PRS next year.Ā

Ā Had a brief flirt with the 6 creed but over all didnā€™t give me enough ā€œlessā€ than the 6.5

Looking at other sixes and the GT seems good mix of speed / recoil / mag feed reliability albeit the new kid on the block, Ā looks like brass is a pain to find but hopefully with improve with hornady making factory ammo.Ā
    Ā

looks like it was built for Varget so bit stuffed there, might work with N140 or maybe Tac (which I have a load of)Ā

    Anyone shooting them?Ā
    Anyone making them?Ā

Eley Tenex ,Eley Match or Centre x are good choices..

    R50 wasn't good in my CZ452..

Your voodoo will be more consistent with the match chamber and custom barrel..

My factory barrel is very picky

Yeah theyā€™re designed to run centre x and Midas which is why the SK also runs well in them, sticking with it for now while itā€™s hot at least and will do the what ammo dance again in the autumn šŸ¤£

    Ā

@Charlts thatā€™s the end game, however when previously enquiring about SK lots ā€œno chanceā€ due to the lack of availability at the momentĀ

Have you modified the Vudoo's magazine to make it more Eley friendly?Ā  Vudoo have some videos on Youtube showing how to do it.

    Ā

Thank you Iā€™ll check this out!Ā
me and eley arenā€™t really on talking terms since they retired EDGE for the utter ****** Team but itā€™s good to have options šŸ‘

  10. Looking back at the threads it was R50 so maybe one to try once Iā€™ve burned through this batch of LRM. Looking forward to taking the rifle back to zero one with a tune on it though, took me around 8shots to break the clay at 280y last time, go for a first round hit this time šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

my main take away is as much as I love the data, itā€™s such a nice rifle to shoot in the ESS chassis, puts such a smile on my face each time I take it out and thatā€™s the main thingĀ

  11. 2 hours ago, 1066 said:

I think you'll find R50 is not supersonic unless in quite cold conditions of around 0c - Published data states 1082fps (330m). Chrony figures through my Annie M54 showed around 1070 fps. Transonic speed at 68f (depending other odds and ends) is 1,125fps.
    Ā

This was in riflemanā€™s at about 12c and was coming out of the Vudoo super šŸ˜žĀ maybe it was r100 but Iā€™m sure it was 50ā€¦ might be worth a try again then.Ā
    Ā

long range match is good until it cools

Had a play with the tuner again today, a bit more structured and it definitely makes a difference. Think I am getting close and the LRM was insanely consistent, far more so than I have seen before, but again itā€™s very borderline speed wiseĀ

    Ā

the stickers show the ā€œfinalā€ groups after Iā€™d tinkered with the tunerĀ

  12. Well thatā€™s a given but we donā€™t really have the luxury of choice thanks to the lack of availability at the moment especially when Iā€™m shooting 500-1000 a month with a 1200 holding šŸ™„

I was shooting rifle match which was great but the RFD hasnā€™t been able to get any for 8 months.Ā
    Ā

Iā€™d love to take the Vudoo to Germany and come back with 10,000 lot tested centreX šŸ¤£ (Eley might be a possibility but theyā€™re shorter than SK / Lapua and it doesnā€™t like em)Ā

Iā€™d love to be able to shoot R50 which it loves but itā€™s supersonic and all my local ranges only allow for moderated subsĀ

So Iā€™m stuck with tinkering with the tuner to see what I can do with SK LRM. Hopefully when I get chance to do it properly Iā€™ll get a tune and then simply be able to fine tune it between lotsĀ

  13. Not been out for ages with the Vudoo.Ā
Have switched back to SK LRM for availability but this means a retune.Ā

Didnā€™t go well today, too tired to be doing it and a breeze got up a bit. I need to go back to riflemanā€™s indoor really and take some proper time out to do it as even the little 3mph gusts mean 0.5ā€ at 100.Ā

these are ā€œassorted tuner settingā€ 10 round groups at 100y the two top left were no tuner.

    IMG_5037.thumb.jpeg.d848753b2b6ec7b7dde62ca0f3fd79ea.jpeg

The final group is the top group top right which doesnā€™t have much vertical displacement (0.3ā€)Ā

These are some 5round groups at 50y to re-zero.Ā
