baldie
Just finished this animal today. Its a Winchester model 70 in .375 Holland and Holland. The gun was in a poor state having suffered a pretty poor paint job, which was coming off in lumps. First job was to fully bed it, including the floor plate. It entailed bedding halfway up the channel to bed the front lug these magnum rifles have to have. Then it was a complete strip for a coat of Ceracoat Graphite black. that has to be the most beautiful factory floor plate ever made......probarbly by Carlsberg. A nice , different job that adds spice to life !

baldie
Its a very well made rifle indeed. Not what you would expect from a factory rifle at all.

baldie
The only part of the lug that matters is the rear, which you can't see in the pictures. There is no paint on there as they were masked off. There is enough clearance on all the rest of the lug, including the front, to allow painting. there is also no paint on the bolt face either, as that is important. Both these areas need protection as both, painted, would affect headspace.
