100 Yard Benchrest 1st May

Recommended Posts

Three forum members attended the UKBRA 100 yard benchrest comp at Diggle on Saturday

Foxing2Nite, Woolley and myself

Darrel and Andy were slugging it out against each other in the Factory sporter class, whilst I was up against the big boys in the custom rifle class.

We were treated to the rare occurence of near perfect conditions, sunshine and light winds.... however due tot his rarely happening I think we were all pretty stunned and none of us shot totally spectacular groups.....

Darrel got the small group of the say in the Factory class with 0.305" well done mate. Andy had a very respectable group of 0.326"

The best I could manage in custom class was 0.276", good but not good enough for small group, see the results below.

Interestingly in Match 4, the wind dropped to absolutely noting, which confused most people and we all did not know what to do :-)

*** Can someone else come with a factory gun and beat Darrel, I think we are funding the Welsh economy with his prize money *** ONLY JOKING MATE ;)

Seriously though, come along and have a go, bring whatever you have next shoot is Saturday 19th June.

In the end the results finished

Factory sporter

1. Foxing2Night - Aggregate 0.6055"

2. Woolley - Aggregate 0.7167"

Small Group - Foxing2Nite - 0.305"

Custom Class

1. Ian Dixon - 0.2078"

2. Phil Sammons - 0.2849"

3. Bruce Lenton (ME) - 0.3167"

Small Group - Eddie Robinson - 0.131"

Any chance although this sounds ridiculous you might be able to list the rules of entry for weapons into these competitions please. What is allowed for factory class entry etc, many thanks.

Hi folk, basic rules are as follows

Factory Sporter......

Factory rifle, only the following mods can be made

1. Tune but not replace trigger

2. Recrown barrel but not shortened by more than an inch

3. Blue-print action

4. Bed stock

5. Fit a plate to ride a front rest

Custom Gun.......

Basically anything goes except.....

NO MUZZLE BRAKES at 100 yards BUT OK at 600 and 1000 yards

Weight classes for custom guns are

Light Gun

(100 yards less than 10.5 lbs)

(600 & 1000 yards less than 17 lbs)

Heavy Gun

(100 yards less than 13.5 lbs)

(600 & 1000 yards anything over 17 lbs)

As far as calibres goes, anything is permitted, so long as it meets the range rules.

Sound moderators are allowed, bipods are OK for Factory sporter.

Hope this helps

Cheer,s Bruce,

As always a bloody good day out,,,

And some money aswell.. can,t be bad!!!!!

As you said the wind was very calm, for the diggle that is unknown,,,

And yes a lot of people did not know what to do???

Match four were the wind died down to nothing was when i shot my worst group of the day????

The lay out of the range has a lot to do with it??, I think that the wind swirls around in the middle

and makes it blood hard to read,, If it were on a flat field then i think that there would of been loads of groups in the one,s,,, But this is the joy of shooting at the diggle,,,,

Rob, The big shmidt is well to say the least it is fantastic,,,,

Well capable of being used for benchrest, Easy to swap from one rifle to the other,,,,

Come on boy,s this comp is well worth a day out,,,,,

Dave,

you can run a brake at 1,000yd. I presume you'd want to use it at that range - .338 seems a bit overkill for 100!

Sorry Dave, forgot about that one, you are right......

But always good to come along for the crack and have a go......

I have never seen anyone turned away as such... Like you say you can always shoot it for fun.

I enjoy competing against myself as much as competing against others.

Cheers

Bruce
