.223 Advice please...

Recommended Posts

I’m thinking of getting something for a bit of plinking out to 600m.  Sort of settled on a .223 for choice of ammo and cheap to feed.  Looked at the Tikka Tac A1 and it seemed to fit the bill.  Available in 2 barrel lengths with 1/8” twist.  There’s a 20” available locally but would the 24” be significantly better?

suggestions....

The Tac A1 is a nice rifle, can't go wrong with one!  20" tube will get the job done but a the 24" would be my choice. (Decent velocity gains) Especially seeing as the Tac has a folding stock that makes it more portable . 1:8 twist combined with Sierra 77-grain TMK's is a great combo.

It's worth noting that spare tac A1 mags are hideously expensive

Cheers for that.

TBH...if I could get my mits on a 24” T3x varmint in 1/8” twist, I’d go that route and drop it into a Bifrost stock.

My .204 T3x SV sits in a Berserk & it’ll shoot the hairs off a gnats ass...😊

Just check that the 24” barrel is threaded as think it’s the t3x varmint in 20” is the only one threaded 18x1. Very happy with mine but would of preferred the adj cheek piece super varmint. Silly waiting times for them . Check all the dealers for actual in stock rifles .
good luck

Threaded would be the way to go IMHO, but it doesn't cost an arm & leg to get a smith to thread it for you.

Was very luck to find a super varmint 20" 1/8 twist with 18x1 thread. It likes GGG 69gr and will happily reach out to 600yds very accurately.

Got it late last year and was the only one I could find in stock.
