Long Range Rigs

With the popularity of longe range and extreme long range shooting now gaining a good following I am curious to see what rigs are doing the business....personally my mile kit consists of a Barrett 338 98b topped with a Khales 624i with a MSR ret. I have just got hold of a Sabatti Evo tactical in 300wm to try my hand with. This is topped with a Steiner MX7i with the MSR2 ret. Between the two it should keep me busy in the winter months reloading.

What you got gents?

Trueflite 32" 1:9.5SG  "special geometry" which I'm told is similar to 5R,  Dolphin brake (very good), Barnard PL action, Barnard trigger,  Dolphin aluminium folding stock with bag rider.  S&B 5-25 x56 PM11 ffp with P4 mils reticle all in a Spuhr mount - total tilt, with rail, of 11 mils.  (Picture is with a Vortex that's long gone in favour of the S&B)

I use a Tier One bipod with ski feet on a rubber mat and a leather bag filled with chromate sand.  Overall the recoil is quite reasonable - I use a shoulder pad and I can send 100 down in a day (£££££!) and still function (all be it with an "Eskdalemuir Headache")

All in all a very satisfactory set up.  The mile is no problem with my Hornady ELD-M load, however I need to develop a load for 2000 plus - possibly solids.

Mine is a .338 Norma Magnum built on a Defiance Mutant XL repeater tube gun action that I had DLC’d by Orlikon here, sat in an Eliseo RTM tube gibe chassis. I can switch lowers from long action to short in a minute.

Custom 27” Bartlein, 1-9.3” twist thats 1.35” at the breech, straight for 5” then gently tapers to around 1.2” at the muzzle.
Area 419 Sidewinder brake tames the recoil, it feels like a .308w. Last time out I shot just over 100 rounds and simply could have kept going all day long.
Fortmeier/Phoenix bipod, Huber concepts 2-stage ballbearing trigger, S&B PMII 5-25x56 ffp, MIL/MIL with H2CMR reticle (love the reticle as I have fine .2MIL windage marks). Mount is an Era-Tac QD one-piece mount and it’s been totally repeatable taking it on and off tens of times. Great bit of kit is the Era-Tac. Combined tilt of chassis and Era-Tac mount is 40MOA, or roughly 12MILs.

I shoot 300gn Lapua Scenars with HbN coating over 94.4gn of RS80 powder. Does around 2790fps.

It's certainly a bullet-proof build quality (sorry awful pun).  Can't fault it
