204 Ruger with vn530

Bought a tub of vn530 sometime ago after reading data that puts a 40grn Vmax out at 4055fps with 25.8 grns☺, so thought I must try that, sounds too good to be true!! Well it is?.

So with 39grn s/b/k coated with *HBN* I started at 26.0grns and got 3679 av fps. Not looking promising

Worked up in .2 of a grn to 26.8 which gave me 3832 fps, all looking ok on pressure but slower than expected, then the next load of 27.0 grns gave me 3889 fps and a blown primer and slightly sticky bolt ,so no 4055 fps to be had with this powder!!! Not that I really expected it.

Anyway a good session,and well pleased, between 26.4 and 26.8 gave me 3 nice groups to 1/4" shot with the drone on board, so will happily be using the tub, just slower than vhitavuori state!!!

NOTE.  all loads were shot with *HBN* coated bullets

I get 3,740fps with 25.6gr. My barrel is 25" though.

I tried it as well a few years ago when they first brought out the data for the 204. 

I don't remember the speeds I got but they were nowhere near 4055 and I had a 26in barrel. 

I think their figures are wrong.
