Hi all

I've been doing some load development with the above bullets and powder.

Really pleased with the accuracy but MV seems low,2450fps out of a 600mm Blaser match barrel....is this about right?

Rifle is used for long range planking.

Cheers

Danny.

Not sure I'm going to get much more in the case mate.

That's a very light charge

OK I've just had a play about, looks like I could get upto 49grs in the case.

I think I've been over cautious.

I do find it hard reloading for a Blaser as there's not much to look for pressure wise,no stiff bolt etc.

That should ell you something about chasing velocity, wirh the same bullet weight (though BC varies a bit-not important in a stalking rifle). Accuracy is more so-only test firing can sort that out.

So are you saying stick with what I'm doing or push it a bit more and see what happens.

I'm using this rifle at longer ranges so variables will be greater at longer distances won't they?

Yep, somewhere close. 140interlocks are running 2582 out the Tikka with n165. Can get more but no need as its my stalking rig.

On a side note. I'm running bing 160 prohunters at 2707 in the same rifle with same powder, no pressure signs but the shoulder push is a right slap now.

OK so did some more development.

Blaser match barrel 6.5x55 140gr ELDs.

N165.

3rd groups.

46.5gr MV 2478fps

47.0gr MV 2508fps

47.5gr MV 2527fps

48.0gr MV 2548fps

All produced clover leaf groups except the last group which had a flyer.

There you go.

Two observations:

Do you think 40fps is going to make any difference terminally?

And is one flier in three shots likely to be replicable?

Clues to answers: No,and don't know ,but given answer to first question, why risk it?

Well I'm glad I've done this load development as I have now got an even better accurate load.

I wasn't chasing velocity I was chasing performance.

Also I wanted to know why it is quite slow and was hoping I could get some answer's after all we are all learning new stuff all the time, I like to know the reason's why.

Cheers

Danny.
