Wilson Seating Die Micrometer

Recommended Posts

Anybody tell me please if you can buy the micrometer adjustment and fit it to any of the Wilson seating dies?

Have 223, 6BR and 260 and it would be handy to use the micrometer for fine tuning depths?

Also are the micrometer top accurate and repeatable?

Maybe a cheaper and more reliable option would be a set of 'Skips Shims' from Sinclair. These are in one thou. increments and fit between the top and die body.

Most benchresters use them with Wilson hand-dies for making accurate fine (and repeatable) adjustments to seating depth.

About $12 a set. Part no. 749-001-370ST for 224/6mm and 749-001-326ST for 25/30 cal.

or, an extra Wilson seater die bullet cap and stem at $25.99, or more than one depending on how many bullets are loaded, (plus the Skip's shims set for fine tuning) having a cap/stem set for a single bullet.

Note that the standard Wilson stems may be too shallow for VLD bullets' noses too, a recipe for terrible runout on the finished round. 7mm Berger VLDs (168 and 180) aren't properly supported in the standard stem ... can't comment on others. (Not by any means just a Wilson problem - essential to do a bullet fit check with any make of die when loading any of today's very long pointy bullets!) Sinclair / Wilson do alternative 'VLD seater stems'. Not cheap though at $22.99 a time.

The new combined Wilson / Sinclair die looks nice, but $199.99 worth nice when it's not 'on sale'?
