tony
Is there really a big difference in accuracy when you use a different lot of the same powder? The powder is varget by the way and have just developed a good load so now have a new tub to start on, will there be much variation in that same load? Thanks, Tony. The Gun Pimp
Not necessarily - some powders vary more than others batch to batch. I've had massive variations in Reloader 25 but you may be OK with the Varget. But, as always, a test group with the new powder just to confirm is advisable. Laurie
VarGet and some other Australian manufactured Hodgdon powders acquired a reputation for inconsistency some years back which did them no good at all. There were tales from reputable sources of up to 2gn differences in safe maximum 308 Win loads between VarGet lots for instance. ADI's owners the giant Thales multinational conglomerate has, with assistance from the Australian government, recently spent serious money in modernising the WW2 vintage Mulwala, New South Wales factory. Since then, whether as a result of the upgrades or by coincidence, these stories about VarGet and its stablemates pretty well disappeared. Still, as TGP says, there may be minor variations between lots and it's no bad thing to check out a new lot with a test group. It's not just a pressure / safety issue. The optimum charge weight for best groups may vary slightly.
