The_Dogge
I just mounted a new scope (thanks PESCA) and the clearance between the objective bell and barrel is only about 0.017", 0.45mm. I measured this by sliding folded paper under it, it looks more by eye. Is this likely to cause a problem or damage to the scope under recoil? Will this be ok or do I need new mounts? Thanks Gareth
brown dog
Probably need new mounts. Years ago, when I had a similar problem I was told to put a piece of carbon paper between two sheets of normal paper; slide it in to the gap and then fire the rifle. Any marking on the paper = scope too low. (My scope marked the paper when I had to do it)
Swamp Donkey
Interesting. My 308 with the sightron fitted has three red rizla clearance. Never had anything to suggest that it's causing an issue, there's no marking on the scope/barrel from any contact, but, I'll shim the mounts and see if it makes any difference to the accuracy. BD's carbon paper idea seems worth a try
