Stevew. Did you manage to get 1000 rounds through the barrel of your 284

 

The barrel had done less than 800 shots, but I needed change use (Fox to deer) Still as accurate as the day it was built.

I do recall though the throat having moved forward by 0.040" in the first 200 shots , and it was never allowed to get hot or abused. But when I rechecked after another couple of hundred shots it had hardly moved forward, very strange.

you can use .243 win for fireforming thus getting free barss

dies are very available

freforming is piss easy

they are easy to tune

they will do every thing you wwant and more

and finally because we told you too

What would a decent set of dies cost for the 243ai mark, and what barrel length and twist you reckon?

Thanks, the 243 Ackley is the most accurate rifle I have owned to date. My Dad shot a 3 shot group of ~ .25 MOA with it shooting prone off my rucksack. I recently managed to match that using the bipod.

Whats this im reading about I can use my collet dies for the ackley instead of these really expensive 243ai dies. Can or does it work ???
