  1. Thanks. And you're right re the non-salt kit. That's what he calls them, for International sales, as he won't/can't post the salts. https://ballisticrecreations.ca/product/no-salt-kit/ No prob re getting the salts from APC Pure and thanks re dimensions of the pots.
  2. I've got the 'non-salt annealing kit' on the way from Ballistic Recreations. Can anyone please suggest which melting pot to go for - the Lee or Lyman? Obviously I'd want the molten salt mix to be covered by the plate/disc and this appears to be the case with the Lee. What about the Lyman? TIA.
  3. Thanks folks. There was a slight breeze yesterday and the tripod I was using wasn't really up to the job. This scope is well over a grand to buy new and on it's first outing, a few weeks ago with a sturdier tripod, seemed to perform better. Now that I know the 'standard' which I should expect, from your comments above, I can more easily judge when I get a better tripod and have more time to play. Thanks again.
  4. I bought a second hand Minox spotting scope recently, hoping that I'd be able to see bullet holes at short range if I had a lane to myself for a morning. I tried it yesterday and found that 0.223 holes at 200 yds were barely visible. And they were little better than an old x22 Tasco spotting scope that I'd bought over 40 years ago which I took with me! Light conditions were good. Should it be possible to clearly see bullet holes on say a white target backing at 200 yds? FWIT, I used all mags from 20 to 60 and still couldn't see the holes clearly. Best viewing was of a tight group which had more definition than single holes. Thanks in advance.

  6. Many thanks chaps for all the input to this thread. I 'need' to start annealing soon as my lad's Lapua Creedmoor cases are on their 3rd/4th firing and a £1 a case, that's something I want to keep going as long as possible. Looks like this is something that would suit me better than any of the flame systems....
  7. Can you elaborate on this comparison please? i know 4 people with Tikka TACs and they are delighted with them.
  8. I had a problem with getting a specific gun cabinet last year - the suppliers delivering the wrong model on two consecutive occasions - which due to the bulk and weight of the thing was a pain. It had been ordered via Optics Warehouse. Like most gun cabinet sales (I believe) - the retailer takes the order and it's the importer/wholesaler who arranges delivery. Optics Warehouse were absolutely brilliant. They couldn't do enough to get it sorted - despite me not noticing it was the wrong model for a few months - as I needed to get electrics and plumbing moved to get it installed. Communications from Lisa who was helping me were great - replied to emails within minutes, phoned me to discuss and she got it all sorted efficiently, despite a complicated supply issue on the importer's side. Not once did she mention that I hadn't helped things by not noticing it for so long.... They are without doubt my favourite retailer for gun stuff. Bought a load of stuff from them since.... My lad needed a decent scope mount for his NF ATACR last month and again, great advice from them and I almost enjoyed spending the £315 on scope mounts!! 😂
  9. I went for RS62 due to it being kinder on the barrel - from Laurie.... Got a big tub in Fultons. First 3 shots at 100 were in the same hole using 142 SMKs. Didn't fire a 4th and 5th round on that occasion....
  10. I gave the guy on the GMK stand a bit of a hard time over this at the Game Fair in July. His point, and probably reasonable, is that the US priced the 'package to include 3 magazines whereas GMK in the UK priced it to include only one. They could easily have increased the price by £200 to cover the cost of two more mags. But let's not start on the cost of kit in the UK vs the US.... Just found that my TRG magazines fit the T3x TAC A1 perfectly... Although that would be like forging 10p pieces by rounding off the corners of 50p coins....
  11. Years ago, I bought from TR Robb a 'hollow point' maker device. It used a small drill (bit) which filled inside a device which went over the bullet in a 22LR cartridge. This would then hollow point a solid bullet. Sadly I can't say how effective it was as I 'hollow pointed' a number of Tenex rounds but found that Eley subs were so accurate in my rimfire, that it wasn't practically possible to detect any improvement in hollow pointing Tenex. And it was a slight fiddle in any case when there were 100's of rabbits to clear.
