  1. Im not overly focused on F/TR, if i fancy entering a comp Ive got my .223.   I have no aspirations of winning so it will be fine.

I just fancy setting some personal goals, hit a target at 1000m for instance, but I also like to be able to take the rifle out of the safe and admire it as a minor work of art. Like a nice S/S shotgun.

    cheers

as a club gun we bought a howa in 6.5 creedmore with a heavy 26inch barel  a dpt moderator  a atlas style bipod and the big hawke eld scope  all in under 2 grand . put in a grs stock it would be adjustable and good looking

Ammo bought at Bisley  S&B 140grain at £19 a box ( nay have been 17) and it was in the bull at 1200 last sat in the rain .

Im currently thinking along the above lines.. 1500 action in a GRS stock, (Laminated Hybrid maybe) . thanks for all the advice.

So that didnt take very long! As  was predicted I need to go further..

What happened is I've managed to pick up and old Tikka M55 target rifle in .233 with Scope Moderator and Bipod for what I think was a good price. Its a good practice gun but ts not going to work over 600m, so time to fill the 6.5 creedmoor slot i have.

Now for he controversial bit, the more time i spend at Bilsey the colder I'm feeling towards all the tactical  rifle options , Im sure they are all incredibly accurate but they are hardly elegent.. so is there such a thing as a resonably  priced target rifle, ( single shot is fine) , must have an adjustable comb ( neck issues) a nice walnut stock, or wood laminate, but not lego or plastic !   If im going to miss, lets miss with a bit of style.

I followed these instructions and built a portable stand for my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme press.

Works a complete treat. My loads have very little run-out. I reload off my dining room table, so it’s easy to take the press out of the cupboard and plonk it on the table. Or if doing more mundane tasks (eg depriming, expanding necks etc) I can place it on the sitting room floor whilst I watch some TV.

Do you then clamp it to the table is is it OK to use just free standing?

  5. Hi Guy's

Im beginning to assemble bits to start reloading, and a good bench seems the place to start. Unfortunately due to space constraints a folding 'workmate'  style is going to be the most practical.  On youtube I've seen a couple of videos where people seem to have there presses mounted in a stand that then  clamps into channels/rails on the bench, which looks ideal.

Is this something you can get in the UK, and if you can will it dictate what press i have to use?

    thanks

Tell your daughter and wife the equipment is going up in price all the time  so its a good investment for them when your gone .....

I've already used that one with a few wristwatches though TBH with the IWC it was true.

  7. Hi All

I'm getting close to retirement and plan to spend my Golden years spending all the money my daughter thinks she's going to inherit.

To that end I've got a .233 and a 6.5 Creedmoor on my ticket. The plan is to use the .223 to practice and then set myself distance goals with the 6.5 starting with the broadside of a barn and working back from there. ( i currently shoot .22lr benchrest and i might enter the odd full bore comp as well but with no aspirations of winning)

A very rough estimate is that Id shoot a max of 1500/year .223 and 500/6.5.

If I live/shoot for another 10 years, should I be thinking of reloading for financial reasons?

PS:  Before anyone answers I should warn your replies will be used in evidence when the wife asks the WTF are you up to now question. , to date I've convinced her motor racing and game shooting were cheap hobbies but i think shes catching on now,

  8. well I am a contractor.😀

However staying with a friend on his farm, and shooting at his club, but traveling back by train through central london on Saturday lunchtime.  Ive got a folding stock 10/22 that will fit into a "normal holdall" but only with the scope removed.

All that aside i'm just curious as to if it makes any difference as I do move scopes between rifles.

  9. If you need to remove a scope for whatever reason (in my case transportation) but you want to keep the zero as close as possible when refitted IYSWIM.

Is it better to remove the scope with the mounts attached, and mark the mounts position on the rails ( dovetail Im afraid) or split the rings and mark the scope as to where the mounts were positioned.

    I hope this makes sense!
