not wishing to show preference to either side here,,, but given the name of this forum it seems a strange dialog within at times.

fair point, but surely a robust debate is good?  It confirms or refines our beliefs.  Echo chambers are for snowflakes that need a 'safe space' to all agree in😉

Popsebengo, why are you actively promoting a split between different branches of shooting?

As I have stated in other posts I am not in receipt of the facts relating to a specific image but it seems neither are you?

MJR,  I'm not.  Let me just reiterate - I have nothing against hunting and vermin control if done sensibly and ethically.  I'm fed up with an assumption by some, who enjoy the wholesale shooting of wildlife, that they can expect me and others of my point of view, to dumbly support their firearms rights and put out of my mind the fact I don't agree with what they do.  I also don't think there's any practical relevance either, after all what does this "support" look like?   Am I to ally myself to persons who make offensive and dumb comments  - I don't think so.

It's just a fact of life that the majority of the population are anti shooting for a variety of emotional and some rational reasons.  Surly the best approach is to win hearts and minds not fling abuse around and accuse those proposing opposing legislation of being "like nazis".  Take a leaf out of the 50Cal shooters group who put an excellent case together and won based on rational argument.

  3. The original posts were commenting on how awful it would be should additional controls be introduced and how (in some twisted logic) this was akin to Nazi or Marxist behaviour.  We then have the 'thin end of the wedge' argument about how' we shooters must all stick together' because they'll come for your guns next...

The rights and wrongs of  controlling hares is highly emotive and will exercise the non-shooting majority for sure.  Surly the sensible thing for the shooting (of critters) community to do is smarten up their act, avoid highly emotive pictures getting into the public domain and enforce regulations that do exist to avoid illegal and/or dubious practices.

But, hey, that's a mature position, better to whine about it on a forum looking for an echo chamber response about those evil nasty non-shooters who just don't understand...

Good luck in changing any minds.  I'll take my chances at protecting target shooting sports without any help from the game shooting community;  thanks but no thanks.

Hare`s can be legally shot , would the emotional ones be as outraged if 300 rats or grey squirrels had been shot?

Game and varmint shooters want public support and support from other FAC holders such as target shooters.  The optics aren't good are they?  Best of luck convincing the general public with reason..

Talking of emotion:  "the SNP are no better that the Nazi party , just a little bit more subtle ".  Way to go with reasoned argument 😉

Sickening isn't the word for it...............and as for the constant whining, mostly from game shooters,  that we should support each other.............good luck with that.

    Pete

Indeed sickening.  I think it's high time enforcement action was taken because the industry clearly are taking the piss out of "voluntary" codes of conduct.  The game shooting industry can go whistle if they want my support.

The "Thin end of the Wedge" argument was not made by a game shooter (me) as I'm purely a target shooter and I was certainly against the MARS & 50. cal ban.

The comment was made purely about the increasing distrust & fear of the firearms owning section of the population by clueless "townies" (of which I'm one.) and the political parties they tend to support, who would do anything possible to stop the public at large from owning firearms, so please don't think that all "Townies" are lefty lib snowflakes and shooting sports are the sole preserve of country folk. That's all  I was saying

fair point, I was being general in my response rather than directing it at your post hence didn't quote you.  However I'm sick of 'thin end of the wedge' arguments in the shooting "community".  It's wishful thinking to expect such a wide group of shooting sports participants to support others without considering all factors in contention,  I think it's only rational to weigh in the balance all factors before lending my support to any group.  Varmint shooting, deer stalking and even game-bird shooting is perfectly legitimate and can be done with animal welfare at its centre - my objection is the industrial rearing of birds to blast away at and the unsavoury practices that some (by no means all) estate managements employ to maximise profits.

The only thing that I have in common with some in the shooting community is a gun and rifle,  it'll take more than that to get my support.

It’s probably a reaction to the wholesale and unregulated slaughter of hare on grouse moors, When you see images like this, it’s hardly surprising, you don’t have to be an ‘urban Greenie’, for that to turn you stomach. It’s fkn disgraceful.....

yes, it's rich having 'townies' complain about shooters but maybe a long hard look in the mirror would help.

Please stop calling people Nazis, it's stupid, ignorant and offensive.  The problem with shooting is it's a minority sport with little to no support from a non-shooting urban populous.  It's actually democracy at work for better or worse - the better solution is to crack down on disgusting practices by some industrial shooting estates (not all by any means are bad) and win some hearts and minds.

Thin end of the wedge arguments are also a bit rich;  how many of you "game" shooters campaigned to resist the MARS and 50cal bans and help out target shooters?

    1. Loaded length gauge, indexing off the Ogive good call

I have looked inside it has the seating ogive that moves the dial rod so it is a bullet seating measure!.

I will post photos here shortly of the internals

thanks for the help but as said it will look good on my shelf gathering dust again

make an offer if it's of any use to you?

It was free how do I use it ?

take it apart so we can see the components and maybe we can work that out.

If the gauge rests on the tip of the round then I would assume you push a known round into the gauge and set zero, then check loaded rounds to be the same length.  Can't say I'd ever measure that way as ogive is far more consistent.  Is there a 'cup' type of affair under the measuring plunger?  A bit like a bullet seating spindle out of a die?  That would be useful as a precise length measurer doohickey.

If you don't want it I'll take it off your hands 😉😁

Pete, nothing to do with British proof marks. Once a rifle has been "proofed" within the CIP zone then it is accepted, no need to re- proof. Blamausau rifles are proofed in-house in Isny Germany. They might carry UK proof marks if for example a barrel gets threaded and therefore sent to proof.

    edi

    Blamausau rifles ?

  11. Imperial wax and mica for the case neck.  Never had a problem.  RCBS stuff is ok too but I wouldn't bother with it now I've found better stuff.

The cost benefit of DIY isn't attractive however I do like a good DIY solution!

Below is part of an e-mail after trying to point out the  markings on the  windage turret..

    Good afternoon Neil,

the engraving has nothing to do with the clicks. The clicks are only for the first calibrating.

It is made for Snipers, that they can see maybe they have to choose the marked 12 on 200m distance, if the have 1m wind/second, coming froum south, west, or whatever.

So if you want us to do a special engraving, where is a „10“ marked after 10 clicks, please advise.

    Best Regards,

    Mit freundlichen Grüssen

    Matthias Schäfer

Good grief !  Now there's someone who really doesn't get it 😱🤣

Good question. Makes me wonder if it's a problem with the brass and/ or the sizing process rather than the rifle.

Could the neck and shoulder have stuck in the die and been pulled forward making the case too long?

I can't see mention of factory ammunition being tried.

    Edit

I see there is mention of Winchester ammo.

In the original post, Mr Miseryguts tried "shop bought"

If I had a brand new expensive rifle I'd want the seller to sort this out not run around trying to obtain gauges to test it!
