  1. Just got back in from testing the pard 008 with the wraith x2 850nm and I thought it would be good, works brilliant and doesn't hardly need the power turning down at all closer in, 300+ yds was well illuminated and pretty clear on 6x but you lose a bit of clarity when you zoom to 13x.

lovely 👍, I like to see a long range shot.

Yep they always learn quick 😕, I blew a magpie up this evening on a dead rabbit😀, and it's mate disapeared, anyway rabbits back in the bag and there's tomorrow for that one 😃

Can only say what I have tried so far im afraid but I have a feeling the 850nm Wraith from LL will be too much for the Digex and cause whiteout.

Hi blueroll, yep it might be to much, and I thought the same when we tried it alongside the photon rt but it worked great with that when the power was turned down at closer range then really good when turned back up at long range, exept everything is small at long range with the rt and when you x up the picture gets a bit crap but it was well illuminated, we tried a pbir on the rt one night and that just whited out at all ranges.

I'll try the wraith 850 x2 with the pard 008 tonight to see how it works with that.

Hi Bob, on the back burner, I run a workshop for a refrigerated van rental company and we are supplying Supermarkets and Pharmaceuticals so i've got my work cut out keeping a 120 vans Running at the moment, hopefully ease off soon and i can get back to tinkering in the Shed. hopefully by the end of the Month i should be back to normal.

    Kev

Ok mate no worries, sounds like what you're doing is more important than mounts👍

Interesting. Is your Digex the N450?

What distance advantage would you estimate the Ludicrous Lumens Wraith gives you over the supplied illuminator? I would happily consider a LL product but gave up trying to deal with Clive Ward years ago!

Hi 17rem, I bought a LL wraith 850nm x2 for the drone, it is brilliant, has a switch which is reasonably quite compared to others, and a you can turn the power up and down to suit and avoid white out, tried it with my mate's photon rt aswell and it was really good on that also when turning the power level down.

I've not tried the 940nm like blueroll, but can tell you that the wraith 850nm x2 is great , and Andy at ludicrous lumens was a pleasure to deal with, answering and replying to emails pretty much straight away, and was happy to send out mix and match parts(payed for)  to send back for refund after deciding which works best😃, not that I did that as I was sure the 850nm x2 would be good for the drone, and it sure is😃

Thanks for the informative reply, it’s going to be a 20-250 and 10twist at 26” long.

I will be using n550 and hoping to get 4200+ with around 38gr of powder.

barrel life will be low, Most likely sub 1000 but for flat trajectory to 300-400 yard it is more or less point and shoot give or take.

what charge we’re you getting 4100 with?

The BR case will be a lot more efficient than the 20-250 but i needed a reliable  Feeding round from my tikka action so went with that instead

Not sure how vn140 would work in a 20-250 (could be good ?)but I used to get just shy of 4100 with 38grns of vn140 in my 22-250 with 40grn nosler b/t and great accuracy.

Personally I wouldn't use vn550, if it's like vn530 I'm using at the moment in .204 Ruger with 39grn sbk's it shows a lot more pressure than single based vhit, and the quoted figures are higher than you'll get, i can't get any more speed from vn530 than vn133!!

  7. About a month after saving the fallow fawn from two foxes a similar story,

I was sitting in a hiseat in the dark waiting for a fox when i heard one yapping away, coming my way, two fields away in front of me, to have it go straight into the plantation on my left, I had to keep looking through the thermal spotter to find it in the narrow strip of tree's when it popped out half way along level with me, as I veiwed it through the drone it was sitting back on looking into the tree's slightly arched over with its tail straight up flagging from side to side as a set of eyes shone to its right, just inside the tree's, I thought it was another fox until a muntjac showed very annoyed at the fox, watched them for awhile, the fox wasn't backing down, so i sent it a 20cal parcel 😀

Next day when I told the keeper and said i bet fox was after its young un, he said he's got a pic of a muntjac with small fawn on his trail cam in there 😃, I wonder how many deer fawns foxes eat, must be a fair amount!!

Shooting with night vision most of the time now is a real eye opener as you get to see these sort of things happening sometimes before taking the shot, which you don't have time to see when shooting with a lamp!!

Hahaha I bet they go really well bob ! I for one would be interested in hearing your .20 Cal tales so crack on bob 👍

They'll only be boring tales of dead foxes👍.

But here's one😸 .  A nights foxing which turned into two nights a couple of years ago on the stubbles sticks in my mind, first night was going well when we pulled into a gateway, my lad scanned across the stubble with the lamp and turned off as a set of eyes showed on the hedge a good 250yds on other side of field, I fired up the drone and on looking saw a pair of foxes with a fallow doe between them, as I watched the doe ran at one of them which turned and legged it,she then turned and ran at the other fox that had moved closer to where she stood, chasing that one off, my lad was watching through the thermal and this went on for a while, doe back and forth, chasing the foxes off, she must of had a fawn in the hedge so as soon as the fox I was on stood still I killed it😃, the other fox ran up and into the hedge, I quitely got off tailgate and told the driver to sit still for awhile as I really wanted to get the other one, a few minutes later it came back to stand looking at the doe for a couple of seconds before another 39grn sbk hit home,  shot 10 foxes that night and 9 the next night on same land but those  two foxes that were determined to get that fawn were two of the most satisfying shots I've done, love my .204😉.

I knew you would struggle keeping away from this 😁

I was at one point going to have a go with a .20 cal but I sort of got sidetracked by the .223 again, more of a case of what you know really . Over the years I’ve always had .22 based varminters apart from the ackley . But I did have a short spell with a .17 Remington  and fell out of love with it after a month or so . While yes it a flat shooting rifle there was just too much of a trade off  , and over the winter months I found it next to useless shooting in the wind over the large ,flat open ground we have here . So I think I have in the back of my mind stupidly compared the sub .22 cals on my 17 Remington experience.

    but never say never .

Sorry, promise I won't mention the .20cal again😂, but if you ever do get one, you'll be able to put your tennis balls away and drive some golf balls out👍😃

Still here!!! I,ve learnt a lot or rather as much as i need and hope I,ve helped a few on the journey. Here,s a pic from the past ,,I still have the rifle and scope and bag rests!! although that barrel on the RPA has long gone and the Vauxhall Frontera too!! Take care everyonehope and pray we all have many more years to play yet XOnehole

Superb rifle's onehol👍, I bought one of the first intercepters in 22-250 , battleship grey stock and I believe a  L walther barrel which the first one's had, still have it in the cabinet, but hardly ever use it now as the 204 and 17fireball with n/v has mostly taken me over 😃, would like to get the 20prac out to smack some crows and Maggie's,but this lockdown has people wandering about everywhere around here😕

My good friend who is no longer with us😢 used to video a lot of our shooting that rifle, day and night. he was probably one of the first to post rifle shooting on YouTube under the name of warrolutak ( not sure if spelt right), some of you might remember the clips?, foxes, crows, rabbits, etc, I remember reading the comments 😂😂.

So yep ootot, still shooting as much as poss, but more in the dark now with n/v, the air rifle has also been drinking a bit of air with 127 rats in 3 outings just recently, great fun😃.

  11. I was being offered lots of partridge and pheasants in the game shooting season, and decided to buy another freezer to put in a shed to keep taking what was being offered😃😃, didn't know what was just around the corner!!!.

Bet all those guns not taking any birds home are kicking themselves now😂.

Here in Wyoming the  badger is a fur bearer and needs permit to take, handsome devils that dig huge holes and a nasty temper!                                Loading to music hahah I managed to forget my work and just enjoyed the sounds, Im sure PinkFloyd had the greatest influence on velocity and accuracy hahahah!

No no, getting it right is hard enough sometimes, playing them, you'll just hit another Brick in the wall😋

The simple advice is stay at home

If you live on a farm or estate and carry out rifle work on a paid basis you should be ok continuing to regulate vermin and deer numbers

I wouldn’t test the boundaries any further than that

I agree the childish behaviour on other web forums is not good

Neither was the constant whinging that “I can’t get out, what if this, what if that”,,,,,

    Follow the rules

Stay at home unless you fall into the exceptions bracket

Lovely little song to remind us what to do

Love that song 👍, just had us all laughing 😂.
