Its the same with some reamer manufacturer wont supplie to the individual - theres no laws against it . Not that i know of . I needed a custom reamer manufacturer for me but 1 uk manufacturer wouldn't . I would take all component to smith once gathered . I don't diy smith anything . Tho iv had a krieger blank here and taken that to smith once ready
Again, why would you expect a manufacturer / distributor to deal with the public ? If they did it would alienate their trade customers who will be their core customers , ask you local RFD to order what ever reamer your want.

I'd buy them in a flash if I could, but they apparently only sell to "the trade"..................I like to keep a couple of blanks stored so that I can chose a local smith when the time comes.
I currently have Bergara and Brux.
Pete
So why not buy a couple off your local RFD ? why would you expect a manufacturer / distributor to deal with the public ?

There dosent seem to be much point paying up to double for other brands when Sasssen are a proven British product.

What do you need on your FAC for these ?

Maybe you didn't understand - I was writing the post as the person, in the UK, trying to buy a barrel blank from someone in the USA.
If the exporter in the USA breaks federal law, by trying to send me a barrel blank and finishes up in the pokey, then that's his problem, not mine
I fully understand , you would be initiating an illegal export from the US, you dont have to be in the US to commit a crime there and a few people have found that out the hard way , read the ITAR regs if you have many hours to spare.

Just wondering if it is at all possible to ask a simple question on here in order to get an informed answer to said valid question without people taking it as an opportunity to start tearing chunks out of each other?

204
in Varminting
20 minutes ago, Chris-NZ said:Went out with a buddy last Sunday late afternoon ( it's spring here). This farm has a terraced edge that drops off into a river valley and it's Rabbit Central. Took my 700 VS .223 and my gunsmith mate his .204 T3 Varminter (Edi knows who that is). Started shooting about 4.45 and we gave up before 7.30, more than 90 bunnies later 😁 Closest over 120yds, most 180+ and at least ten over 300yds. Clipped one first shot at 400 and scared another crapless at 394. Was very pleased with two successive solid hits at 275yds holding 10-12" into the breeze.
My std twist .223 is shooting 53gr VMaxs very well and his .204 39gr BKs extremely well. The kill rates were indistinguishable but the time of arrival was noticeably quicker with the .204 and the splat factor better under 250yds. I'd have a .204 like his any day. As for wind drift, you really need to go for a 6mm to make major inroads in that. The 400yd ones really needed my 6BR or 6x47L but I didn't have enough loaded ammo at hand to take either.

Hacking a US government computer and importing a barrel blank are not the same thing.
If the company/person in the US chooses to sell a barrel blank to you in the UK, you have committed no crime in the UK or US. The company/person selling you the barrel blank my have committed a crime in the US, but it was their choice to sell you the barrel blank and therefore they, not you, have to suffer the consequences.
Cheers
Bruce
You live in a dream world , as an exporter ( which you are if you initiate the deal) its your responsibility to find out if you need an export license to export firearms components out of the US , and guess what , you do if the cost exceeds $99.00, you even have to get an export license for a wooden stock ( see Boyds stocks) but carry on breaking the law if you want , only you will be prosecuted not me.

If you are the importer, living in the UK, breaking a US federal law is irrelevant.
People in the UK break US federal laws every day, but they don't finish up in Levenworth
The exporter may have a problem, but you won't
Tell that to those extradited for hacking US government computers just to for the crack with no criminal intent.

No issue with UK authorities however US authorities may take a different view , exporting most firearm components from the US are covered under ITAR regs .

Its not always about what your FAC says either , if the calibre is vague then your RFD may not agree to let you have your opinion of what it means.

Irony 😁

There`s the issue with nearly all factory 243w`s , they are 1:10 yet sold for deer stalking and in Scotland and NI you have to use 100gr + ,

Assuming a foldable stock, is 24" minimum length with the stock folded?
Yes if it can be fired folded.

Fair enough indeed, just wanted to make sure. I have jiggled around on quickload and the 308 Win seems to be as good as anything. With around 44 g of Viht N130 and a 125g Hornady SST you will get a predicted 2600 fps for 1874 ft lbs with a 12 inch barrel. Deer legal and providing a relatively frangible bullet is chosen (such as the SST) should be effective at the more modest velocity. This load has approaching 100% load density and burns almost 99% of the powder in the barrel. The other way around this problem would be a folding stock or a ......... blaser!! Incidentally with a 12 inch barrel you may end up having to amputate some of the forend to gain enough space to moderate it! By extending a bit to 14 inches you may get away without chopping the stock and would gain a fair bit ballistically. Another option would be a single shot like a Thompson Centre which I believe is available in 308 with a 15 inch barrel that due to the short length of the action would be very short but retain some ballistic efficiency
Thanks for that.

I would be interested to know why the OP would want such a thing ?
I want to be able to fit it in a back pack when walking from one farm to another and also as a truck gun.

Is that a misprint or did you say 12 inch???? As in one foot long!!
Yep 12" , I`ll be using a moderator , but as many calibres wont have burnt the powder I thought I`d ask the question.

A good mate of mine has just done the same ..
the problem your have is finding something that meets the min requirements and does NOT shoot like a dog !
in the end he went for a marlin 30/30 carbine and I has to say after a considerable amount of pi55 taking , it shoots fantastic !!
I put 3 rounds just under an inch ( rested on front bag ) at 75m with the fitted open sights and with some cheap factory ammo .MY ADVICE WOULD BE before you write an underlever off , go try one !
Well 30/30 meets the criteria , if a bolt action was chambered in 30/30 it would open up a bigger bullet head choice so a contender .

What would you UKV chaps say was the best calibre for a short barrel (12") deer legal rifle ? the bullet must not be less than .240 inches and it must have at least 1700 ft/lb`s ME .
Sassen cut rifled barrel
