I've been out and tested some target ammo today..
Shot from 50yds prone.
CZ452 with a 9 mag leupold rimfire scope.
It's a little blowy today and bloody freezing..
I took some Norma subs which I've never tried before..
Used Harris bipod and rear bag.
Used some Eley match and eley club.
RWS club,match and special match..
Zeroed my new leupold rimfire scope with the 42gr winnie subs..
After some inconsistent results I tried a different approach as I suspected my eyes were at fault because I'm overdue a eye test and some glasses are needed as target was blurring 🙄.
Old timers setting in 😱
Anyway I thought I'd try aiming at white discs on a black back ground and I could focus and hold crosshair better.
Left to right
Eley match.
Eley club
RWS special match
RWS match.
I shot 2 groups of 5 shots with each.
Top and bottom are the same ammo
Good groups in today's weather!

Just had this thread pointed out in a side-chat; with all the Johnny-come-lately precision rifle shenanigans going on today ....
You wouldn't think, listening to some of the narrative, that a decade ago this sort of stuff was already happening... ego-less, expert and fun....
It's a funny old game.

Lockdown, eh?
I think I'm now aware of more than 3 groups claiming in the social media space to be 'it' for UK Precision Rifle.
Funny old game.

Ok ... I’ll be the first to say it .
I want one 🤔👍
think it looks great .
Something I'd never have done, but it just 100% works at all levels.

It was indeed done by Baldie.
I wasn’t sure it could be done at all, but as always Dave made short work of the job 👍🏻It was a bloomin good call 👍

Well, in these days of sh1te, thought I'd share something that is unexpectedly brilliant - I recently rebought a .22 I'd sold years ago. Whilst 'away' the new owner had a mini-badger bolt handle fitted (by Baldie, I think). A posh bolt handle on a .22 is something I would never have thought of doing. Yet, the effect is bloody brilliant... it transforms the feel, handling and look far beyond anything I would have imagined.
That is all 😊

With three or 4 going private concerns cracking along quite happily; I'm a little bemused why an unconnected admin layer is needed at all. 🤔

Well done Spud, what terrific progress is so short time - I remember your first tentative steps.
Yup. Brilliant stuff. Kudos.

My fave joke recently is:
The Norwegian navy have pained bar codes on the side of all their ships.
When they dock they Scandinavian.
Now take your M4 comment back....

perhaps stick to knock knock or why did the precision rifle cross the road?
I'll stay S of the M4!😂

My humour is wasted 😂😭
"I hear the Oceania Precision Rifle Confederation is much the same; one long dogfight between the team captains of the French Polynesia and Tokelau teams."
it's an absurdity intended to shine light on the insanity of the published document's supposed reach... Oceania PR Confederation? Tokelau?
Dislocated from reality.

Thick question:
Why is BAIRS called BAIRS? 🤔
I'm sure there's an extra intended amusement/ dig hidden there, but I don't know what. Anyone?
I've no dog in any of this, but it does seem an odd carry-on, especially the 'democratic' part .... not sure who they think they represent. Parallel universe?
(And disappointed no one got my French Polynesia joke earlier 😂😭)

The grudge stuff is peculiar: egos.

As you say speed of sound at 4 degC is c333m/s
So the avg vels you quote aren't far off that... ie you're teetering on the edge of supersonic 'as is' ...
then, taking an average as meaning, by definition, 50% shots above and 50% below that value, you could expect half your eley shots to crack, and (depending on SD) a fair chunk of the SK and Lapua to crack.
If all are cracking, my first thought would be that that's probably within tolerance, as you're right on the edge and the ammo avg estimate is just that, an estimate, and maybe your rifle routinely shoots a couple of m/s fast, for whatever reason..
But, if not, my second thought would be charge temp.. was the ammo warm?

16mm ID silicone tube with 2.5mm wall thickness....
Idiot check me; if peroxide-cured tube is slipped on to a blued metal barrel with silicone grease; is a rust reaction likely?

I was visualising 5 all hard against each other - like a segmented limbsaver ..... ideally, they'd be sorbothane, but I think silicone will have the nearest properties for something easy to get and cheap?

so you’re developing’ a version of the Hicks tuner/ Freelend forend (of 52E fame)/ ‘SmartStock’ system I.e.applying strategic pressure 😉😁 - can I do an online version of the (small cough) and refer to my earlier post 😘
Sort of.. but I'm seeing deresonation rather than pressure points - I think the hicks thing was a hard spot aiming to change transverse wavelength? My mind is focusing on ways of reducing the amplitude of the doughnut

As above, decided it's time to stop wearing my varied collection of green/sand and green/black softies, and get something with similar warmth and non-down, but in a 'normal colour' ... any suggestions?
