How good are they, doing 10 shot stings regarding mirage. Catch-22

Yeah pretty good. Significantly better than without one.

But I’d say most of these covers are pretty similar to each other. Most use 1000D Cordura for the outside material and the same heat/flame resistant inner liner.

I think the key difference between the various makers is the fitting system. Some are fully stitched so you slide it over the mod and use those strickta/bungee chords. Some have Velcro straps but the buckles are plastic with various degrees of strength.

I like the Cole Tac, partly because you can customise your mod cover & straps, but mainly because the cover has 4x straps and with metal buckles you can ratchet them down so the cover doesn’t shift.
The cover is also custom made to measure, so it’s a perfect fit.

  2. I’m S Wales based.

I don’t know of any FClass or FTR clubs down this way, but then I don’t shoot those disciplines and might be out of the loop.

Sennybridge isn’t a FClass/FTR setup, they’re field firing ranges or specific ranges mostly with SARTS or reactive targetry. You could practice for FClass/FTR but I’d say less than ideal.

The clubs that use Sennybridge, Rogiet and others around here are mostly simple target  shooting.

There is Barry Island Tunnel shooting club, some of those members do load development for FClass/FTR sometimes, but really go on to Bisley to shoot properly and to compete.

There aren’t FClass/FTR competitions down this way to my knowledge - you’ll need to travel elsewhere to take part in that.

Thanks - I know what a pm is - I need to know how you access it on this site thanks

If you’re on mobile, look top right in the ‘Header’ for the three stacked lines. That’s the ‘Menu’. Click, open and you’ll see an icon resembling a envelope, again top right. Click that to access your PM’s.

I’ve never accessed the site on desktop, but if you can’t already see the ‘Envelope’ icon for your PMs, then I assume you’ll need to click your profile icon, through which you should then see your PMs.

I've joined a club and smallest distance is 200yards.

Considering I'll only have 2 x 15 mins details per range visit, what would you do?

Hmm, that seems odd...only 2x 15 minute details?? Why’s that?

I think you’ll really struggle to do any effective load development in 15mins. I assume you’ll follow the OCW method as you’re upping the charge incrementally.

in 15mins, I should think you’ll only have enough time to shoot a 5x round group, record your chrono velocity/SD/ES, wait for barrel to cool a bit and shoot a second 5x group before you’re packing up.

Really you need a good amount of time to shoot all your loads in the same session, so wind, temp, humidity, your shooting position and mental attitude are all the same. Otherwise you’re going to introduce other external variables to your load Dev which may skew results.

Why the overly punitive range details of 15mins?

Personally, I think you’d be better served at a different club or think about visiting Bisley or a private range that’ll allow you the time and space so you’re not rushed, to complete your load development.

You’d do better placing this in the Sales section of the forum...as that’s where people who want to buy stuff will look.

    Thanks Badger  :)

I suspect I wasn't pushing them fast enough, my 140 Nosler and 139 Scenar loads are about 2630fps with 36gr of N150

The max Viht N160 load is around 42gr so I'll try a few around that.

Yeah, those are particularly anaemic loads.

You don’t mention the cartridge you’re shooting, but possibly a 6.5 creedmoor or .260rem?

Ive found the past 6.5x47L rifles I’ve had really start to shine with higher pressure loads.

  7. Owning several full custom/switch barrel builds (Impact 737r and Defiance Mutant), in .338 Norma Magnum, 6.5x47, .223AI and .30-06, plus an AI AWM in .300wm, I personally don’t think any misplaced shot will be attributable to any gun you choose to buy, whether that’s custom or other.

All the guns are as accurate as each other, regardless of being custom or not. All have top components and will all shoot very well once I’ve found the right load that suits them.

All the guns have been flawless in operation, regardless of rain or shine - they just keep going.

Personally, my advise would be to choose a gun with an adjustable stock or chassis so that you can fit the gun to your body shape and style of shooting. Other than that, I think just choose whatever makes you feel happy, you are comfortable with (eg weight of carrying for stalking etc) and have at it - regardless of factory, custom or semi-custom.

But regardless of how nice ones kit is, there is no substitute for practice. Just get out there and practice.

Does this have the Finn Accuracy reticle (MSR) as stated, or NOT ?(as pointed out by the member who's advert text you copied without permission)

    Nope.

Advert description still states Finn Accuracy reticle, but the box shows it’s just a P4FL-MOA reticle. That is NOT the MSR.

    Here’s S&B data sheet on the P4FL-MOA:

  9. I did a fairly thorough analysis and review of the Chargemaster Lite back in 2017 when they came out. I know it’s not a Matchmaster...but worth a read none the less.

    https://ukvarminting.com/topic/38699-rcbs-chargemaster-lite-arrived-today/

    As noted by DS1 above, the Lite was handy for throwing. And to be fair, the scale unit was actually very accurate ONLY if you did the following;

    1. Under throw a charge

    2. Remove pan, leave to settle and replace pan

    3. Trickle up to final weight

If following the above, it was very accurate - often to within 0.02gn - or 1-2kernels of N140.

But doing the above took time...and completely defeated the whole purpose of having an auto dispensing machine.

Needless to say I sold the Lite and bought the Fx-120i with Autotricker & Autothrow combo and haven’t looked back.

  10. Not a .338LM but I do shoot a .338 Norma Magnum. Only 6% less case capacity.

I shoot HbN coated 300gn Scenars to good effect with my 27” barrel.

Ive used RAMSHOT Mag a fair bit as that’s what the .338NM was originally designed to use with 300gn Sierra match kings. But I found RAMSHOT Mag quite dirty, had poor ES/SD and wasn’t as tight group wise as I wanted.

I did find RS80 to be an amazing powder for the heavy 300gn bullets. Very clean, nice recoil impulse, tight groups and low ES/SD. I think my load of 94.5gn RS80 and 300gn Scenar (note...it’s HbN treated) now runs around 2800fps and has an SD of 4-6fps.

    I bought 10kg of RS80 as I like it so much 😁

It’s also worth noting that RS80 is the same powder as Reloader 33 as marketed in the US. So if you’re looking for data, you can use Rel33 data. In the States, they like Rel33 for the .338NM and .338LM a lot.

  11. This thread might be a blast from the past, but thought it might be worth adding some data for anyone who’s interested.

    Gun is a 2017 AW AWM .300wm, 26” barrel 1-11” twist.

Case: PRIVI (cheap but surprisingly good)

    Primer: CCI200 & Murom KVB-7 LR

    Bullets: 190gn & 200gn MME ‘Wimbledon’ custom bullets and 208gn ELD-M

Powders: VV N165, Lovex SO70 & RAMSHOT Magnum

Everything shot at Minsterly, weather good, little wind. Gun was on bipod with rear bag. Sadly my Magneto speed is bust, so I don’t have any velocity data.

Overall, I think the 200gn Wimbledon bullets with N165 shot the best.
I was also very impressed by 190gn and SO7O. Only found pressure with the upper RAMSHOT mag loads and the top end of 190gn with N165.

Ive decided to use N165 with the 200gn MME bullets as they’re better and cheaper than the 208gn ELDm. And I’ll also use up my last stock of SO70 (excellent powder) with the 190gn MME bullets.

    Loads tested:

    190gn MME, SO70, 2.9370” o-give

    1. 70.0gn

    2. 71.0gn

    3. 72.0gn (shot the best group)

    No pressure.

    190gn MME, N165, 2.9370” o-give

    1. 75.0gn

    2. 76.0gn (I recon 76.5gn would be best)

    3. 77.0gn

    4. 78.0gn (Slight pressure)

    200gn MME, N165, 2.9305” o-give

    1. 74.0gn

    2. 75.0gn (both 74.0gn and 75.0gn best and shot exactly the same)

    3. 76.0gn

    4. 77.0gn

    No pressure.

208gn ELDm, N165, 2.8740” o-give (I couldn’t touch the lands but was longest I could load to mag)

    1. 72.0gn

    2. 73.0gn (best group)

    3. 74.0gn

    4. 75.0gn

    No pressure.

    208gn ELDm, RAMSHOT MAGNUM, 2.8740” o-give

    1. 81.0gn

    2. 82.0gn

    3. 83.0gn (pressure)

    4. 84.0gn (pressure)

  12. I don’t have a permanent loading room/space so have to setup and pack down each time.

When I setup, I always make sure I leave the A&D scale on for at least 1hr or more before I start loading, just to let the internals warm up.

I'm assuming the shaving is a roll of ultra thin brass, curled up like wood in a plane cut from the outside of the case above the belt (where it's shiny in your pic)?  It must be in the order of 1/10th thou or you would have really struggled to close the die I would think.

To shave there must be a sharp edge to the die as any radius would force the brass inwards rather than shave it off.  Has it removed a shaving all the way round?

You could radius the die edge with a stone or emery cloth on a cone former.

As far as the brass goes, I'd use it but that's a choice based on assumptions above.

    Perfect - just the trick.

I ran my finger up in the die hoping to catch a sharp edge but found none. I took some sandpaper wrapped round a chop stick and did some gentle polishing around the bevelled lip of the die. 2 mins later, sized another case and no issues - no brass being shaved off.

Seems there must have been a minute sharp lip the bevel of the die.

    All good 👍
