    Hi,

to be really honest, I'd find your own load and work up

i use 8208 XBR, but it's in short supply.. When it's gone I will move over to CFE223

use load data for .20 Tactical & go from there...

I only shoot the 39's as I wanted something for fox that I know would work every time without question - that's not to say that the 32's don't work, I just don't have any experience of them

    Hi Treetop,

FYI, I think CFE223 is going to be out of reach once REACH restrictions kick in. I'd hate for you to develop a load with it, only to find its unobtainable.

  2. I have a Delta Striker HD 4.5-30x56 with the LRD-1T retitled (FFP)mil/mil.

I used it for load Dev and practice, plus in a comp at the excellent Roundhouse Rifle challenge this weekend just gone. It held zero, tracked repeatably and the dialed corrections measured off reticle were accurate. The reticle at full mag is still reasonably fine for a FFP scope, though the flip side is that it's very fine at 4.5x. Only the very centre X of the reticle illuminates (personally, I like this).

Optically, it's about what I'd expect for the money (v good but not exceptional.) generous eyebox, no tunneling. It feels well made. Positive turret clicks. Space on elevation turret for your custom drops (but windage is lower profile, which I like, but no space).

    Minor Gripes:

Non-locking turrets (so possible to turn by accident when sliding rifle in and out of eg: Eberlestock pack.)

Windage turret has no markings/indications for direction of adjustment when viewed from usual position behind rifle (there is an arrow on the flat of the turret)

Illumination dial easy to turn by accident when adjusting parallax.

Battery cover easy to unscrew by accident when adjusting brightness or parallax.

Cat-tail throwlever good length but needs (careful) threadlock to stop it loosening.

I'm pleased so far. Hopefully won't need the 10year warranty.

  3. The latest edition of Sporting Rifle (on W.H. Smith's shelves now) reviews and rates several .22 LR subsonics.

Eley comes out on top for accuracy (way ahead) and expansion.

    There: that's saved you £4.75!

Were there any adverts for Eley ammo in the same issue, Scott? ;-)

I wish someone had the resources to conduct a statistically valid, adequately powered study to answer questions like "what is the best .22LR subsonic ammo?" Obviously, the results would not be transferable to every rifle, so you'd need to test a selection of guns...

Starts to become a major undertaking.

Sorry if I offended the member who thought my first post on the site was curt. Gosh he must be insecure.

You must be a Saint with such a charming attitude.

I happen to know the whereabouts of some 218Bee brass. But I'm too insecure to approach the owner on your behalf.

  5. Sion, when trying out these different ammo option, be aware of these traps:

    1. When changing between ammo types, the gun may need several shots of the new stuff before consistency is achieved

    2. Don't draw conclusions from just 1 or 2 groups; shoot lots of 5 shot groups and take averages. Don't give excess weight to the occasional, one-hole-wonder group

    3. Shoot at least at the range you will hunt

    4. Eliminate other variables: wind, your fatigue, failing light etc.

I daresay you know all this but it's all too common seeing people at the range trying out different ammo in their gun and they are generating poor or misleading data.

  6. I used to use Eley subs in one gun and Win subs in another- the two guns liked different ammo.

I'd heard accuracy could be improved by sorting large batches according to rim thickness; I couldn't convince myself of a difference.

I switched to match ammo, which is more accurate and kills hjust as humanely as hollow-points.

I tested a variety of brands: not all were subsonic. I now use Eley Club Extra.
